Free People was founded in the 1970s by Richard Hayne. The brand left the scene was it was renamed Urban Outfitters, but had a rebirth in 1984 and has been operating ever since. The online fashion retailer currently operates as part of Urban Outfitters, Inc.

FreePeople has only grown bigger ever since. They opened their first brick and mortar store in 2002, in New Jersey. They milestone was followed up by the establishment of many more stores (all over the US, Canada and the UK), and they now have over 136 freestanding stores.

FreePeople specializes in women’s clothing. The goal of free people is to be not just a clothing brand but to create a lifestyle. The store is the destination for bohemian fashion that features the latest trends and vintage collections. For all the old classic and dazzling latest; they have the styles that you need to break the shackles and be free. These range from the perfect special occasion dresses, to chic outerwear, to irresistible intimates.

That suggests exquisite fashion styles. The question is whether FreePeople really provides such styles that will have you freely expressing yourself no matter the occasion or season. How about their quality, their prices, and other services; do they offer top quality clothing, affordable products, and excellent service? In the first place is Free People genuine?

Is FreePeople Legit?

Free People is legit, not a scam. It is now a must to first determine that an online store is legit before placing an order with them. There are just too many online scam stores on the internet for one not to worry about whether a store is legit or a scam. And what is more, you cannot tell a fake online store by simply looking at the website. However, there are simple tests that can be used to tell a legit store from a fake one; and we will put FreePeople through these test.

Free People is safe. It is not likely that FreePeople will rip you off because the store is legit. However, it’s also important to make sure that the store is safe. This is because a store that is not safe will leak your sensitive data to third parties. I don’t know any person who would want sensitive information like credit card details to be intercepted by cyber fraudsters.

In this regard, FreePeople uses industry-standard data protection measures. Among them is SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology with 128-bit encryption. SSL is the standard method for creating a secure link between a device and a web server. Thus, this technology ensures that when you communicate with FreePeople to complete transactions, your transaction details are transmitted over a secure link. The data packets are even encrypted before being relayed to ensure that even if captured cannot be read.

Thus, it resizes to fit the small screens of mobile phones.

This is all for a better customer experience because you’ll not have to drag the page left and right to view the full page.

iOS App

FreePeople is one of the online fashion retailers that have invested in a fashion app. The decision whether to buy straight from a store’s website or their app is usually tilted to the app for many reasons. Fashion Apps make purchases easy.

You can have the installed app on your device, and accessing the online store is a click away. Also, it allows you to save certain personal information so that you don’t have to type them in every time at checkout. Most importantly, fashion apps use notifications to alert customers of new arrivals, special offers and promotions. If shopping with an app is a concern, FreePeople will be worth looking at. However, they have only an iOS app, which can only be used by those with Apple phones and tablets. Price, Promotions and Payment Methods

Price

Price is the most important consideration in any purchase because you will not want to pay what is unreasonable for your fashion styles. Therefore, it’s important whether the prices offered by an online store are affordable.

In this regard, it is safe to say that FreePeople is not known for its affordability. For example, you’ll find that many of their dresses are $60 – $200; you’ll be hard-pressed to find a denim piece that is less than $60, and you’ll have to hold at least $40 to get a legging. Their sales page did its best to slash down prices, with some items cut by as much as 50%. But because their main price was high, the discounted prices still stand high. For example, you’ll find tops: slashed from about $80 to $50; mini dresses brought to about $80 from three figures and so on.

That said, if shopping-cheap is a primary concern, FreePeople may not be the best place to be looking.

Promotions

Online fashion stores run promos from time to time, and a review of these promos is important because when a customer takes advantage of them, they can lead to significant cost savings.

We are used to seeing online fashion retailers advertising their promo codes on their homepage, but that was not the case with FreePeople. In fact, going through their website, it would seem that they do not offer any promo, as there was not even a link to promotional offers or bonuses. The only reference we saw of a promo is on the shipping page where free shipping was offered for all order amounts on certain items.

However, we saw that FreePeople does run promos from time to time. We’ll want to see more information on their site about these.

Payment Methods

You don’t want to come up with a headache just to make payment for merchandise in an online store. Thus, you want the store to support a range of options so that some will be available to you no matter where you are shopping from. You’ll also want the supported methods to be convenient.

In this regard, FreePeople does not blow the roof off with a long list of payment options, but they support global options that you can easily grab for use no matter where you’ll be playing from. These options they accept for payment are Master card, Visa, American Express, Maestro, PayPal, Visa Electron, Solo, and Free People Gift Cards (issued in Pounds).

This is pretty much what the online fashion retails stores offer. However, given the popularity of e-wallets and cryptocurrencies for online payments, I’ll want to see some of these options supported.

Also, FreePeople technically supports only one currency because all transactions are made in US Dollars. Though prices and the order total at checkout are listed in a variety of currencies, these are simply estimates based on currency conversion rates. Refunds are also credited back in UD Dollars using the current exchange rate. That said, I will like to see FreePeople support different currencies so that many international customers will not have to worry about currency conversions when making purchases.

Shipping Policy

A review of the shipping policy of an online fashion store is important for many reasons. You’ll want to know if the store ships to your country; you’ll want to know how much shipping cost because high shipping cost can make the total expenditure on an item unacceptable, even if the item itself was acceptably priced; and you’ll want to know how long shipping will take because you don’t want to wait forever for the item to arrive.

However, FreePeople ships oversized home items to only the 48 continental US states. The company does not support the shipping of these items to international locations, U.S. territories, Alaska, Hawaii, P.O. boxes, and APO/ FPO addresses.

In terms of shipping cost; customers want rates that are as low as possible, therefore free shipping is the ultimate deal clincher.

Fortunately, FreePeople offers free shipping. However, like always your order has to be up to a particular amount to qualify for free shipping. For the US, Australia, and Canada, free shipping is valid for orders over $100 (US Dollars), while for every other that FreePeople ships to, free shipping are valid for orders over $150 (US Dollars).

For the international shipment, it should be noted that the free shipping only applies to the merchandise; all duties and taxes assessed by custom will be the responsibility of the customer. Free shipping is not available for oversized home items.

Most customers don’t like having to spend too much in order to qualify for free shipping, and will closely look at the free shipping order qualifying amount. Customers from the US might not like what they see because there are some online fast-fashion shops that require spending only $50+ to qualify for free shipping (to US addresses).  

That said, one thing that makes the free shipping offer of FreePeople is that it applies to both domestic orders and international orders. If you’ve checked other online fashion stores, you’ll find that many of them offer only free domestic shipping; and since the bulk of these stores is US-based, only US customers (and at most Canadians) get to enjoy free shipping.

At the time of writing this review, FreePeople was offering free shipping on their “November Catalog” styles. The juice of this offer is that your orders don’t need to be over $100; any style from the catalogue that you pick gets shipped to you free of charge, no matter its cost. However, the domestic audience gets preferential treatment – the offer is only available for shipping within the US.

Where free shipping is not applicable, FreePeople charges flat shipping rates which means that your shipping cost does not increase with an increase in the size or weight of your order.

For domestic US shipping, there are different shipping options that you may choose from. There is Standard shipping which takes 5 – 7 business days and cost $7.95 USD; there is Express shipping which takes 2 – 3 business days and cost $10 USD, and there is Overnight Shipping which takes 1 – 2 business days and cost $20 USD. Orders for Express shipping and Overnight Shipping will be dispatched the same day if the orders are placed before 1 PM (EST).

Only standard and express shipping are available for Canada orders. Standard shipping takes 3 – 10 business days and costs $7.95 USD; while Express shipping takes 3 – 5 business days and costs $10.00 USD. Australia also has Standard and Express shipping; the former takes 6 – 12 business days and cost $7.95 and the latter takes 3 – 6 business days and cost $17.95. Shipping to all other international addresses is via Standard shipping that takes 3 – 10 business days and cost $35.

Returns and Exchange Policy

Returns

The sad reality of online purchase is that: what you see is not always what you get. There are so many factors that can make you want to return the item to the store after receiving delivery of it. Therefore, it’s important to check that the online store you want to buy from allows returns.

Like almost every other online store, FreePeople allows returns. When you receive your order, and you are not totally satisfied with any of the items, you can return the item to them, and they will issue you a refund. The return policy of FreePeople makes for good reading. First, any merchandise purchased in-store must be returned to the store, while those bought online may be returned by mail or in-store.

Also, they allow a 30 days returns window; which means that you have 30 days from the time of receiving the item to get it back to FreePeople. If the returned items are received within 30 days, FreePeople will issue a refund by crediting your original payment method. This is a very generous returns window, as it means that you won’t have to race against time to get in your returns.

You’ll find some online stores offering return windows of only 18 days. Also in many of the online stores, if your returns do not get to the store within the allowed time, the items will be rejected and you will not qualify for a refund. However in FreePeople, if your returns do not get to them within the allowed 30 days window, it doesn’t disqualify you for a refund.  You’ll still be refunded, but the refund will be issued as store credits.

However, there are some things that can cause returned items to be rejected and disqualify the customer from being refunded. Returns are only accepted if they are unworn, unwashed and not defective. Also, all original tags must be intact; and the items must be in their original packaging.

Beauty and Wellness products must be unopened, and swimwear and intimates not only be in their new and unused condition but must have their sanitary strips in place. Swimwears with broken sanitary strips cannot be returned; also items from the vintage collection (Vintage Loves and Vintage Revival) cannot be returned.

FreePeople includes a prepaid returns label which makes it easy to return an item to them. If you opt for the return, all you need do is pack the item appropriately, attach the returns label, and drop off the package at a USPS facility, with your postal carrier, or schedule a pickup at www.usps.com. The one small dent on the returns policy of FreePeople is that customers bear the return shipping cost. Where you use the returns label, a fee of $5.95 will be deducted from your refund per return shipping. However, the “November Catalog styles” offer also carries free returns. If you must return any of the qualifying items, the $5.95 return fee will be waived.

After the returned item is received by FreePeople, you should allow for about one and a half weeks for the returns to be processed; and after the processing, you should allow 1 – 3 business days for the refunds to be received to your original payment method. This means that it can take over two weeks for you to receive the funds. In my opinion, this is one area where FreePeople could use some improvement. They should try to bring down the return processing time so that refunds can be issued quicker than it is currently done.

Exchanges

If you return an item, wait for the returns to be processed and wait again to be refunded, before placing another order, a lot of time can pass before getting your item. But the process can be optimized if you can simply return the first item for an exchange (get another item in its place). Thus, it’s also important to check if stores allow product exchanges. Thankfully, FreePeople does. However, product exchanges are available for only US customers. All international customers that may have received a wrong or defective item will have to contact the company and start the returns process for a refund.

Other Services

Price Adjustment Program

In their commitment to making prices as low as possible, FreePeople provides a price adjustment program that allows you to get items for a price lower than it was marked. This happens when you pay the listed price for an item that is out of stock, and the item when on sale happens to be listed at a lower price.

If you contact FreePeople within 14 days of the original delivery date (or of making the payment if it is an in-store purchase); they’ll credit your original form of payment with the cash difference.

AfterPay

It’s sad if you’ve fallen in love with an elegant fashion piece but cannot completely pay for it at the moment. If you must have it at that time, you needn’t worry too much because FreePeople has a financing plan (AfterPay) that allows you to buy now and pay later.

Another interesting thing is that the AfterPay plan is interest-free; the total you pay is the order amount. AfterPay financing is available only for orders of $35 – $100. It requires you to submit your credit or debit card (Master Card or Visa) details.

The total order will be split into four instalments; you’ll have to pay the first instalment at the time of purchase, and the remaining three will be deducted automatically every 2 weeks. Thus, AfterPay is a 6 weeks financing plan. If you miss a payment (that is, funds are not in your account when payment was due), you’ll be charged a late fee of $8, and if that’s unpaid after 7 days, an additional $8 fee is added.

However, AfterPay financing is only available to customers with a US billing address; customers with international billing addresses cannot create an AfterPay account. That said, the financing plan is a good perk that is not often seen amongst online fashion retailers.

Customer Support

Customer support service is an important element of any store’s service, whether online or brick and mortar. You may have questions about the merchandise or about the seller, or you may have issues with your purchase, and you’ll want a store that will adequately provide the needed assistance. Therefore, it’s important to review the channels that FreePeople provides for addressing customers’ inquiries/ complaints.

They provide a FAQ that holds self-help articles that answers some of the questions you may have about shipping, returns and payments. It must be said that FreePeople extensively treats these topics in clear and simple language. However, if you must contact a support agent, they provide for that via email, telephone and live chat.

The email service can be accessed using a contact form on the website. The company pledge to answer all email submissions within 24 – 48 hours. While this is fine, we’ll like to see an improvement in the response; at least within 24 hours.

However, for those who wouldn’t want feedback, the live chat and telephone service provides instantaneous feedback. Also, these options are available round the clock (24 hours a day). You can access the live chat feature from their website; for the phone service, the number to call is 800.309.1500.

It should be said that many customer reviews of FreePeople have scored their customer service very poorly. With some of the issues identified (like paying extra charges upon receipt of international orders, long refund periods etc), you’ll expect customer support service to be busy. And it would appear that many customers weren’t satisfied with how their issues were handled.

Summary

Who does not want freedom? FreePeople promises to make you live free through fashion. First, the online fashion retailer is legit and safe. FreePeople is one of the oldest fashion retailers in the business, and they are still fulfilling orders, and also using industry-standard measures to ensure a secure buying environment.

That said, the company does have the styles to help you break the shackles and live free. As a women specialist brand; they have a wide product range that covers every women’s clothing, accessories, shoes and beauty products. They cherish creativity in design, and you’ll see that reflected in their right-for-the-occasion clothing which invokes attributes of femininity as well as fire. The quality is also top-notch. However, you’ll find that their prices are not always “just-right”. This is where promotional offers will be appreciated, but FreePeople is not as vocal as we’ll like about discounts and promos.

However, there are more reasons to head to FreePeople for your online shopping than there are for not heading there.

Is Rotita legit?

Before using an online platform, it is important to determine that it is legit. This is because there are just too many scam artists on the web ripping people off using scam stores. Thus, the big question is whether Rotita is legit. The simple answer to that is: Yes it is. The longer answer is that Rotita is operated by a 100% legal company, and is an online store that fulfils orders.

Our first check of a legit online fashion store is usually legality. This is because stores that are 100% legal are less likely to be scams. Thankfully, Rotita ticks this box. The online store is owned by Hong Kong Yuzhen E-Commerce Co. Limited. This is a live company incorporated in 2016 in Hong Kong as a private company limited by shares. Suffice it to say that scam stores do not get the backing of legal corporations.

However, the ultimate test of a legit online store is fitness for purpose. For an online fashion store, fitness for purpose will be delivering real and functional fashion products to customers that place orders. There’s no doubt that it won’t matter to customers whether an online store has legal certificates if it does not fulfil orders. Thankfully, Rotita also ticks this box. In the independent customers’ reviews platforms, you’ll find all the testimonials you want; hundreds of orders are fulfilled daily by Rotita.

That said; with Rotita 100% legal and known to fulfil orders with real and functional products, there’s no doubt that it is a legit online fashion store.

However, there are lots of complaints from its customers. While writing this Rotita review, we did some research and investigation to know what Rotita is actually doing to their customers and we were disappointed that most of the feedback was bad. As a result of this, we will advise you to stay away from Rotita. Or order from them at your own risk. Don’t get us wrong, some people claimed to have received their items perfectly well but the number of bad reviews is far higher than the good ones.

Is Rotita safe?

Rotita is also a safe fashion store. Before using an online platform, even after determining that it is legit and will not rip you off, you’ll also need to consider whether it is safe and will adequately protect the sensitive information that you share with it, preventing such information from leaking out. Definitely, personal information and credit card details are not information that you’ll want leaking out to unauthorized third parties.

Rotita does relatively well in this regard. It says it takes the online safety of its customers very seriously, and that it uses reasonable security methods to ensure the safety of users’ data. It does not give the details of these “reasonable security methods”, but it was easy to find that among them SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology, which is the industry standard in ensuring secure data transmission over the internet. SSL uses bank-grade encryption ensuring that even if data being transmitted is managed to be intercepted, it cannot be read by the hackers.

With this, it is safe to say that Rotita is a safe online store where you can shop without worries about your information being compromised.

Rotita Complaints

The complaints section is always an important part of our reviews. This is because one of the best ways to gauge how healthy a product/ service provider is is to check what its customers have to say about it. True, there is virtually no establishment that is free of complaints. However, too many complaints raise red flags about the store, as the ideal legit store shouldn’t be overrun by complaints.

For this section, we checked the independent customer reviews platforms like Trustpilot and Sitejabber. At the time of writing this review, the ratings of Rotita on these platforms were just slightly above average. For example, in Sitejabber, Rotita was rated 2.8 out of 5 by 4,455 customers; while in Trustpilot, it was rated 2.9 out of 5 by 3,590 customers.

Interestingly, while these are not flying-colour ratings, they are relatively high ratings for a Chinese cross-border fashion store. That is, on these platforms, China-based online fashion stores usually have far poorer ratings.

That said, some complaints stood out in the customers’ reviews which made Rotita score just above average. These include:

Cancelling Orders without notice

One of the complaints that dominated the spaces is that many times after placing an order, Rotita will proceed to cancel it. For example:

  • Sunita Lall in Trustpilot says “…I ordered two dresses from them to go to a wedding. Here I am waiting for it to arrive not knowing that they cancelled my order without informing me they cancelled it. I contacted the customer service live chat; all they told me was that the order was cancelled and that I would get back my refund in 7 – 10 business days and the person just ended the chat right away. I couldn’t even ask anything else; they’re so rude and unreliable…”
  • Joan Hanson in Trustpilot says “…I ordered a top on the 2nd Nov… After the item was not delivered within the time scale given, I checked with them to be told the order expired. They have my address but didn’t bother to inform me nor have they returned my payment…”
  • Sue J in Sitejabber says “They let me place an order and charged my PayPal account then cancelled the order without telling me saying the item was no longer available but kept my money. I never would have known had I not gone back to the site because they never communicated with me in any way…”

As can be gleaned from the reviews, it is not the cancelling of the order that hurts, but the fact that Rotita does not communicate with the customer about it. So customers will be expecting their order; and when it doesn’t come as expected, they’ll reach out to Rotita only to be told the order was cancelled. Time wasted.

Sizes Running Small

Another complaint about Rotita that’ll jump out at you when you look at the review platforms is that Rotita does not run true to size. Specifically, its products are many size points smaller. For example,

  • Linda in Trustpilot says “Ordered 2 XL tops. They are too small. Will not fit a normal 6-year-old…”
  • Connie H in Sitejabber says “Purchased 5 tops from this site. Got them in the mail eventually, took one out to check the size. Tried it on, and immediately took it off… in spite of the fact that I had purchased the same size I use, the one I tried ran too small in the bust…”

Poor Quality

Is there a China-based store that will be free of poor quality complaints? Well, Rotita isn’t. There are just too many complaints of poor quality products received. For example:

  • Kathy D in Sitejabber says “I ordered one shirt first but was interested in many others. Glad I only did one. I will be returning it. For the cost, it is so cheaply made; and the design looks so much better in the pics than on the shirt when it came…”
  • Kimber B in Sitejabber says “…The clothes are HORRIBLE, so cheap; the tops I bought were like trying to wear a cotton sheet made to not move when you move your arm. NO, GIVE, NO COMFORT, THIN, CHEAP…”
  • Trudy I in Sitejabber says “…The quality of the material used is a disgrace. The sizing does not correspond with the UK counterpart which doesn’t really matter as I wouldn’t be found dead in the items. Another worry is several other sites seem to be advertising exactly the same clothes. Huge Chinese factory turning out inferior goods on different site names to the West I’d say…”

The poor-quality complaints take various forms. There are some stating that the items received differ significantly from what was pictured; there are others stating that the items received were made from poor quality materials, and there are others stating that the items received were poorly made.

However, it must be said that there are many customers that expressed satisfaction with the quality of their orders. Even some complaining customers often report having one or two items in their order with satisfactory quality.

That said; the quality of orders in Rotita is at best “hit or miss”. You can get items that you’ll be pleased with, but the significant number of poor quality complaints also means that you also can easily get delivered items of overwhelmingly unsatisfactory quality.

Difficulty Getting Refunds

Where poor quality complaints are many, there’ll be many requests for returns for refunds. However, as the customers’ review shows, returning Rotita’s items and getting a refund is not as easy as customers will like. For example:

  • Willard D in Sitejabber says “Sent item back for a refund, they received, promised refund several times and not received. 4 months later, still trying…”
  • Diane B in Sitejabber says “I responded to Rotita that none of their reasons for not refunding my money was true and that I planned to report my experience in as many reviews as possible. They wrote back and gave me a refund without further explanation. I will still not do business with this company again. The quality of the items is poor, delivery very slow, and there are many other sites where one does not have to argue to obtain a simple refund”
  • TT in Sitejabber says “…I bought the item in the next size and returned the first unworn, tags still on in the perfect condition. Upon receiving the return I was told it was damaged or stained and I would not receive a full refund. It has been a month and still no refund…”

The “difficulty getting refunds” complaint starts from getting refund approval. As the numerous complaints show, Rotita will often give customers the run around when customers submit return requests. Then where approval is obtained, other issues rear their heads. First, with the return address being in China, and customers responsible for return shipping, they soon find that cost of return shipping is high.

Secondly, when customers do ship back the unwanted item, there are just too many reports of Rotita refusing to refund the customer, claiming that the item is damaged or stained, with the customer maintaining that it was never worn or washed. With this, you’re not even sure that after paying the heavy return shipping cost, you’ll get refunded; which means you could end up losing more (return shipping costs). Lastly, when Rotita does agree to a refund, actually getting the money back is easier said than done.

It should be said that this problem with getting refunded is the main reason why you’ll find Rotita labelled a scam on some platforms. If customers do not receive their order or are dissatisfied with the quality of their orders, they’ll not be too pissed if they can get back their money without hassles. However, if there’s any chance that they’ll be out of pocket, then the scam label is placed on the retailer.

Poor Customer Support

Another complaint that you’ll find is that Rotita’s support service is poor. Given the numerous poor quality reports, you’ll expect the Support Service to be inundated with requests. However, customers are often left dissatisfied. It is not just that they couldn’t get the needed help, but the reviews show basic Support failures like not answering submissions. The first complaint in this section (cancelling orders without communicating with the customer) tells you much about the support service.

This company is a scam. Your purchase and nothing ever arrives. As of right now the merchant or the shipping people do not know the location of my package. if I knew the dresses were coming from another country I would NOT have ordered them to avoid this problem.

I also had an issue ordering on the website it stated that there was a problem with my payment. I didn’t know because usually, the merchant will call the client. However, I just happened to see that I have a message on their website to address.

It should be said that Rotita items ships from China, but that it does well in terms of delivery times. Many of the china-based stores are overrun with late delivery complaints, but that was not the case with Rotita. Though a few Rotita customers reported late delivery, many many more were satisfied with delivery times. So, late delivery does not appear to be a problem plaguing Rotita.

Shipping Cost

Online stores that offer shipping costs that are as low as possible always come out strong. This is because shipping costs are added to items’ purchase costs in determining the total cost. As such high shipping costs can easily make even items that are reasonably priced too expensive to acquire.

Rotita also does relatively well in this regard. For example, when shipping to the US, Flat Rate shipping cost $2.99 for orders less than $20, but free for orders over $20; Standard Shipping cost $4.99; while Expedited shipping cost is calculated by package weight.

When shipping to every other country supported, Flat Rate shipping is also free for orders over $20; while Standard Shipping and Expedited shipping costs are calculated by the weight of the package and the distance the package will travel.

The plus of the shipping cost is not just that free shipping is offered, but also that the minimum order requirement for getting free shipping is very low (just $20+ orders). With only $20+ required to get free shipping, you’ll not be pressured to overspend in chase of free shipping. Also, the free shipping offer applies to every location. This is unlike many other fashion stores that offer free shipping to only their domestic market.

Return & Refund Policy

Returns

In online purchases, customers are unable to physically assess items before committing to them. For this customers will want stores that allow returns; that is, being able to return to the retailer any delivered item that is not totally satisfactory. Thankfully, Rotita is one online fashion store that allows returns.

Eligible Items

Usually, not every item is eligible for returns. However, you’ll want return restrictions to be limited so that you can return virtually every item that you’re not content with. In Rotita, most items are eligible for returns. Only jewellery and Flash Sales products are final sales and cannot be returned.

Eligible items must be returned in the new condition they were when delivered. That is, they must be unused, unworn, unwashed, and unaltered. Any sign of use will make an eligible item rejected when returned; and these include stains (with makeup etc) or scent (deodorant, perfume, etc).

Return Process

Receiving an item that does not meet expectation is frustrating enough. So the ideal online store should have an easy return process.

In this regard, Rotita is so-so. Like most online fashion stores, if you receive a Rotita order that you are not totally satisfied with, you’ll have to first contact Rotita, to submit a return request and get a Return Authorization.

After logging in, navigate to the “My Orders” page and click on “Returns & Refunds”. Then follow the instructions to submit the return application.

If Rotita approves of the returns, in the approval mail, you’ll get the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number and the Return Address. You can then proceed to package the item appropriately, and mail the Return Package to Rotita. You’re required to use shipping with tracking because you’ll need to update the return tracking number.

Return Window

However, you don’t have forever to return an unwanted item. Like in every online store, items returned are only accepted if received by the store within a specified time frame. You’ll want an extended time frame so that your return package will not be received late and be rejected.

Rotita does well in this regard, as it accepts all returns made within 30 days of the delivery date. This is like the industry-standard return window. So you’ll have enough time to return any Rotita’s item that you’re not content with.

Cost of Returns

Where costs are involved, you’ll want them to be as low as possible. Being delivered an unwanted item is frustrating enough; you definitely won’t want to be forced to hold on to unwanted items because of prohibitive return costs.

Deals Cube was founded around 2012 and is based in Florida. Deals Cube operates as an online marketplace. You’ll find a host of lifestyle products on the site, which range from apparel and fashion accessories to personal electronics and more. Being a marketplace means that Deals Cube does not own or sell any item listed on the site. Rather, it is simply a platform where some users (independent users) list their items for other users to buy.

Interestingly, Deals Cube differs markedly from many of the other online marketplaces. In many of these other marketplaces, it is the e-commerce site that processes payments, and after deducting its commission, it sends the payment to the seller.

However, in Deals Cube, the sellers receive payment directly from the buyer. Deals Cube then notifies the seller of his/ her total invoice amount by email, and the seller is required to pay within 24 hours or risk penalties that include limiting of selling privileges or suspension of the account. This review of Deals Cube comes from the buyers’ perspective.

Though this bit about payment of fees pertains to sellers, it has huge implications for buyers as we’ll find out in the course of this review.

The above product categories (and sections) suggest that Deals Cube offers is a place where you can get a wide range of lifestyle products. However, at the time of writing this review, on entering each product section, we found many of them (even whole product categories) to be scanty, even empty.

For example, on entering the Apparel & Accessories category: the Clothing section had only 5 items (4 socks, and 1 T-Shirt); the Accessories section had only 5 items (1 straw hat, 3 “Donald Trump 2020 campaign” baseball caps, and 1 kids’ digital watch); the Handbags, Wallet & Cases section had only 4 items; while the Shoe section had only 2 items – 2 sneakers.

Do you think 4 or 5 items are too few to be listed in a whole product section of a marketplace? We sure do. Amazingly, at the time of writing this review, the Apparel & Accessories category of Deals Cube (with its 4 or 5 listings in its different sections) was one of the most stocked product categories.

The whole Cell Phones & Accessories category had only 1 item – a Samsung case; the Electronics category also had only 1 item –  an iPhone 4 glass screen protector; while the Health & Beauty category also had only 1 item – a TYME Iron Pro hair curler.

Shockingly, having only one item listed in a full category is a big feat in Deals Cube; this is because many other categories had zero items listed. This included categories such as Automotive category, Art & Entertainment, Baby & Toddler, Computers & Networking, Jewelry & Watches, Luggage & Bags, Sporting Goods, and Sports Cards & Fan Shop.

In terms of selection, you’ll joy in Deals Cube if you’re shopping Video Games; the PC and Mac section had 249 listings. There’s a lesser joy to be had in the software category; as this has a couple of listings in some sections.

Using Deals Cube

The review is from the buyer’s corner (that is, all those who’ll be using Deals Cube as buyers; not those who’ll be using it as sellers). The website is pretty simple, uncluttered, and intuitive. In the home page of the website, you’ll find “featured listing” and “recently listed”. You can find items by going through either section.

If you have a particular product in mind; you can navigate to the product categories, click on your desired category, and narrow down to a section to view the products available. Alternatively, you may use the search tool on the website. Simply type in a product keyword, and it will generate available products that match your search enquiry.

When you find an item that you like, you can click on it to go to its detailed description page. In the page, you’ll be able to view the description and specification of the item, you’ll also find shipping and return details, you’ll view some detail of the seller, and you’ll be able to field some questions to the seller. After viewing any listed product; you’ll find a “recently viewed” section that shows all items you’ve looked at.

If you like the item, you can add it to your cart at any time by simply clicking “add to cart” in the description page. You can continue to shop or proceed to checkout. If you are not a registered member, you’ll be prompted to register by supplying your account details, billing address, and shipping address.

Pricing and Related Policies

Pricing

No one will want to pay more than reasonable for any item. Thus, the ideal e-commerce platform should offer products that are reasonably priced.

In this regard, the name Deals Cube even suggests that it is a place where you’ll get great deals (that is, high-quality products at low and affordable prices). Thankfully, pricing is one area (in fact, the only area) where Deals Cube really shines. Many of the items you’ll find listed in Deals Cube are for prices lower than you’ll find in many other places.

You’ll find many customers complimenting the low prices of Deals Cube. Statements about pricing in the independent customers’ reviews platforms include: “I loved the pricing”, “a great place to find what you need for a great price”, “impressed with the price of such high-quality game”, “price was below retail”, and more. In fact, some disgruntled customers even jump on the low prices of Deals Cube when complaining. This includes statements like: “low prices attract you to buy”, “don’t fall for the scam by seeing their less price”, and more.

Promotions

Deals Cube is not a store but a marketplace so the price slashing promotions that you’ll find on the website of many online stores are lacking in Deals Cube. The individual sellers list their products at particular prices which you can accept by buying the product. It’s rare to find either Deals Cube or sellers in the platform running promotions.

Shipping Destination

Being a marketplace, the locations that items purchased via Deals Cube can ship to depend on the particular seller. However, at the time of writing this review, we took time to check every item listed by sellers in the platform and found that they mostly ship to only locations within the US.

Shipping Times

No one will want to wait for too long to receive an online order. So the ideal online purchase place should offer fast delivery times. However, this is not one area where Deals Cube is rated. We found that Sellers even those seemingly close to shipping addresses quoted relatively long delivery times.

However, it’s better to be quoted a relatively longer delivery time (if the items are delivered gets delivered as stated), than to be quoted a relatively short delivery time and be plagued with late delivery. As we’ll find later (in the complaints section), many orders of Deals Cube do not get delivered within its already relatively long delivery dates.

Shipping Cost

The total cost of any online purchase is made up of the item’s cost and its shipping cost. So when shipping costs are high, even an item that is reasonably priced can easily be expensive to purchase. Thus, the ideal online store will offer shipping costs that are as low as possible.

Like delivery times, shipping costs in Deals Cube also vary, depending on the location of the seller and the location of the buyer. You’ll find a shipping cost calculator for each product on its description page. However, since one of the best parts of Deals Cube is their total cost (a component of which is shipping cost), you’ll find that shipping costs are usually relatively low. Also, many of the sellers offered free shipping (within the US).

Returns

There are many things that may cause you to be unsatisfied with the product that is delivered to you, and I’ll bet that you’ll not want to hold on to an unwanted item. Thus, the ideal e-commerce platform should allow customers to return an unwanted item to the retailer, and get a refund or a replacement.

Unfortunately, this is one area where Deals Cube does not do particularly well. Since Deals Cube does not own or sell any product itself, different policies apply to different products listed in the marketplace depending on the particular sellers.

At the time of writing this review, the return policies for many of the listed items did not make for good reading. On the product description page of each item, you’ll find a “Payment & Returns” section. Virtually all the items listed (not that they were many anyway) showed “Returns Accepted: No”. These included products like a digital watch, women’s purses, hats, which are products that are eligible for returns in regular online stores, and even in many other marketplaces.

However, there were few sellers of Deals Cube that were offering returns. Details of returns are limited to “Returns Accepted: Yes”. There is no upfront information about returns at all. There is no return window (how long from purchase date customers have to be able to return a product to the seller); there is nothing about return process; or who bears return shipping cost; etc. Also, as we’ll find later (in the complaints section), getting refunded is not as easy as customers will want.

Complaints

The big complaint that buyers had against Deals Cube toured the cycle; from Orders taking everlasting to be delivered, to Orders not being delivered at all, to not getting refunded by the sellers, to Deals Cube itself doing nothing to help.

First, it starts from placing an order, being given a relatively long time for delivery; and having to wait out the time only not to receive delivery of the order. Then you’ll think the issue is late delivery. You’ll jump to contact Customer Support. Deals Cube makes it clear that you should be contacting the seller and not it (the marketplace). To their credit, the reviews show that some of the sellers respond promptly when contacted (as we shall soon see, this is even more dangerous).

Many sellers in Deals Cube are known to string customers along when contacted for “late delivery” issues. That is a sweet message like: “sorry your item is yet to arrive, gives us two more weeks and it will be delivered”. “One more week”, you may reason, “I’ve waited about 4 weeks already, what’s another 1 week not to wait?” One week comes and goes, and no delivery.

When contacted, the seller may cook up something and ask for more time to deliver. After several weeks, the seller comes clean and sends you something like “the item is no longer available”. That is when it dawns on most people that “late delivery” is actually “no-delivery”. After wasting your time for several weeks, it dawns on you that you’re not getting the delivery of your order.

However, while having wasted time hits hard, the hurt may not be very painful if refunds can be easily processed for you to get back your money. However, the reviews suggest otherwise. First, as stated earlier, many of the sellers in Deals Cube (at the time of writing) were not giving refunds.

However, as we know, financial institutions do not take fraud lightly. So one can easily file a chargeback with his/ her financial institution to get back the payment. This is why it was said earlier that promptly responding sellers in Deals Cube may be more dangerous. If a seller blanks you out and does not respond to your “late delivery” submissions, you may quickly identify the seller as a fraud and file a chargeback.

But a promptly responding seller may string you along making you think the problem is late delivery; and when it finally dawns that the problem is no-delivery, the window for filing a chargeback will have closed (cardholders have a limit on how long from the transaction processing date they can file a chargeback).

The bottom line is that many sellers in Deals Cube do not deliver. Shockingly, they are adept at stringing you along to make you run out the clock on filing a chargeback with your financial institution. According to the many reviews, there are some Sellers that promise refunds but will keep on posting the customers about the refund, in that art of running out the clock on filing a chargeback with your financial institution.

That said; if you must buy something via Deals Cube, do not fall into the trap and be strung along until the chargeback window is closed. If “late delivery” is dragging, or the Sellers promise refunds but is dragging their feet, file a chargeback with your financial institution as soon as possible.

In all the top independent customer reviews platforms such as Trustpilot.com, Complaintsboard.com, and Resellerrating.com, there are just too many complaints of this cycle – late delivery turn no delivery. What makes this annoying is that some of the undelivered products included game and software codes, which should have simply been sent via emails. When it dawns that the item will not be delivered, getting refunded becomes a problem. It should be mentioned that many customers were able to get back their money (albeit via filing a chargeback with their financial institution).

One striking thing in all of these complaints is that Deals Cube (the marketplace) does nothing to help. What it does is to tell the disgruntled customer to file a chargeback with his/ her financial institution. It should be said here that the operating model of Deals Cube constrains it in this regard.

Many online marketplaces process payments, and hold on to this, only releasing it to the seller when the customer satisfies that the product was received, or when a considerable time passes after delivery date and the customer files no complaints. This serves as buyer protection.

However, Deals Cube does not process payment; rather its sellers directly receive payment from the customers. What it means is that Deals Cube cannot force sellers to straighten up. The worst the marketplace can do is to suspend the account of the seller. As the evidence shows, scam sellers do not mind collecting a couple of hundreds of dollars and whistle away as the marketplace close their account. Who suffers is the customer who’s been ripped off.

That said, it’s safe to say that Deals Cube is not doing enough in the way of buyer protection (that is, to check the activity of its sellers).

However, this is not to mean that there are no positive reviews of Deals Cube at all. Yes, there are some positive reviews of Deals Cube in the independent customers’ review platforms. For example, we found three 5-star reviews of Deals Cube in Trustpilot.com.

  • Carl Polchan wrote “Great deals and quick shopping. A great place to find what you need for a great price!!! I am going to be using this site again”.
  • Rocky Spencer wrote “My product delivery was fast, and the quality of the product was exactly as described. I am very happy with my purchase, and I will definitely buy from this site again!”
  • Marwan Abdulmaleek wrote “Great Deals, my brother recommended it for me. All the console games he bought was through DEALS CLUB, he saves thousands of dollars buying Video Games, and other stuff. It’s really a Great Club”.

Given the sheer volume of the negative reviews, we decided to shine an investigative torchlight on these positive reviews. We didn’t even do much before the reviews started looking, suspect.

For example, the first two reviews are too generic. The first review talks of “great deals” without specifically stating what was bought or for how much; while the second review talks of “product delivery being fast” also without specifically mentioning what was bought or how long it took to be delivered.

The third review does mention some products, but it is clear that it is not a first-hand review, and the second-hand reviewer is not even sure of where the original buyer made the purchase (is it Deals Cube or Deals Club?).

Customers’ reviews with the specifics (items bought, amount, dates, communication thread with the seller, etc) where they are available are negative.

Is Deals Cube Legit?

This review will not be complete without specifically answering whether Deals Cube is legit or a scam. Our first check of a legit e-commerce platform is usually legality. This is because e-commerce sites that are backed by 100% legal companies are less likely to be scams.

In this regards, we couldn’t place Deals Cube because search as we may, we could not determine the Company backing DealsCube.com. Neither in the About Us, Terms and Conditions, nor in any other pages of its website is there any mention of the backing Company.

Another check of a legit e-commerce platform is fitness for purpose. That is the extent to which a platform delivers that which it purports to deliver. In this regards, it should be said that the purpose of Deals Cube as a marketplace is to provide a platform where buyers and sellers can meet. Yes, as a seller, you can list products in Deals Cube; and as a buyer, you can buy from sellers in Deals Cube. Thus, Deals Cube provides the platform.

Our next check of a legit e-commerce platform is the test of time. This is because a scam store is less likely to continue ripping off people for years without being called out. Scam stores that are fronts for scam artists are relatively short-lived.

Once their scam activity is exposed, customers wise up, and the store naturally closes up and disappear. In this regards, we were able to dig out that Deals Cube has been operating since 2012. Suffice it to say that no scam online store can continue ripping people off using the same front for about 7 years.

What about the numerous complaint of non-delivery? You are right to ask. After all, how can a buyer consider an e-commerce store legit if it collects money for a product and fails to deliver it or issue refunds?
