The big question is whether Aspesi really offers high-quality timeless fashion pieces. What about their service; do they offer easy payment system, fast delivery, easy returns, effective customer support service, and other services that we’ll expect of a modern fashion retailer? In the first place, is Aspesi fashion product genuine?

Yes, Aspesi is a legitimate fashion store. It is not a scam because customers do receive their ordered dresses without a problem. And there has never been a complaint about stolen money or credit card details against Aspesi.

Aspesi was founded by Alberto Aspesi in Italy in 1969. This means that the fashion retailing brand has been providing fashion products for about 50 years. Is Aspesi legit?

Aspesi is a legit fashion store. They are not a scam because they deliver exactly what you order from the site. This store also has lots of positive feedback about their products and services. It’s a no-brainer that you should make purchases from only legit online stores. Except a store is legit, you may find yourself being ripped off when you place orders online and make payment.

Determining that an online store is legit is no easy task since the scam stores are styled as the legit stores. However, there are a few things to look out for to tell the difference. Scam stores do not fulfill orders; their scamming operation come to light after a short time, and with such exposure the stores close shops and disappear. However, Aspesi has been fulfilling orders since 1969; and in that time the store has transitioned into a go-to destination for luxury men and women wear.

The product categories (and items) shows that Aspesi does relatively well in terms of product range. Aspesi has the hard styles that you can rock to your formal events as well as the casual styles for the simple times. However, you’ll find Aspesi wanting if you’re in the market for intimates (Bras, Panties, Lingerie, Boxers, etc), activewear, or swimwear. Except you’re shopping Sneakers, Aspesi will also not be the ideal place to come to for your foot wears. Also, the Accessories category is seriously lacking products. This is because the store does not provide sunglasses, jewelry, socks and tights, caps and hats, and many other fashion accessories that should put the stardust on a great look.

Inventory Size

You wouldn’t want to find only a few items to choose from when you enter a product section to shop. Thus, while having a wide product range is important, it’s equally important that a fashion store holds a large inventory of each fashion product.

Aspesi does not overwhelm you with the size of their inventory. Their inventory size bothers on small; and they really can do well to increase the choices available in most of their product sections. For example, at the time of writing this review, in the women shop, Aspesi had: 70 styles in the dresses section, 98 styles in the Shirts and Blouses section, but only 49 styles of trousers, 10 styles of Jackets, and only 5 sneakers. It was no different in the men shop. For example, there were only 44 styles of trousers, 34 T – Shirts, 27 Blazers, and so on.

When a store has a large inventory size of each product type, you’ll have a large pool to choose from when making any purchase; and you’ll be more likely to find something that matches your taste/ preferences and budget. While Aspesi’s inventory size may not be as robust as we’ll like, it still affords selection.

Product Quality

An even more important product consideration is product quality. You’ll want that an online store offers good quality pieces so that any item that is purchased there will be of the finest quality. In this regards, Aspesi ticks the box. Though quality is largely subjective; customers converge that good quality fashion items should be well made, should be of good materials, and should be durable. Customers’ reviews of Aspesi show that customers are largely satisfied with the quality of items obtained from the store. First, Aspesi is known for using exclusive and avant-garde fabrics. Aspesi is also known for collaborating with top creative minds in designers and photographers. These collaborations marry art and fashion, and the end product is beautiful fashion styles.

The functionality of Aspsi’s pieces is something that has also been heralded. Where some stores produce styles for the runways, Aspesi produces superb styles featuring minimal designs. And lastly, Aspesi’s pieces are timeless.

Price, Promotions and Related Policies

Price

One of the first things you’ll see when looking at the listed items in a store is the prices of the items. No matter the utility that an item promises, you’ll be unwilling to buy it if you perceive that it is unreasonably priced.  That means every buyer wants a fashion store that offers low and affordable fashion pieces.

In this regard, Aspesi is regarded as a luxury fashion brand. The luxury in the description means that they offer premium items, and also that the items are on the expensive side. For example, at the time of writing, dresses in the store were priced at £252 – £1,125. This says much about the pricing of Aspesi; stores with dresses starting from three figures (100+) are considered expensive, but the dresses in Aspesi started from £252. In the same vein, the women Jackets were priced at £329 – £495. Also, the only women Tops you’ll find under £100 are Tees priced at £63, £77, and £90; Shirt Tops and other Blouses were in three figures, getting to as much as £567. Also, women Trousers were priced at £167 – £545.

It was no different in the Aspesi Men shop. For example, there was also no men trouser listed for less than £100; they were in the £167 – £243 range.  The T – Shirts started out at £63 and got to £189; while you’ll need about £250 to get a Blazer in the shop. 

That said, Aspesi is not by any means a cheap store. If you’ll be shopping on a budget, you’ll want to look beyond Aspesi, but if you’re okay with spending some top bills, then Aspesi is a good place to check for top quality sophisticated but simple styles.

Promotions

The ideal fashion store will have a lot of cost saving offers. These offers come in the form of promotions; where customers have the opportunity to get items for free or for less than the full prices. Given that the prices of items in Aspesi are on the high side, you’ll expect to see many promotional offers.

However, we did not find many cost saving offers in Aspesi. It wasn’t all too surprising because we’ve come to know that the “luxury” wears stores are not usually generous with promotions. Once you are stepping into any such store, you’ll already know that you’ll be spending some good bills.

However, it doesn’t mean that Aspesi doesn’t run any promo. There are occasional offers, but not the huge price slashing offers that we’ll like. There are also occasional free shipping offers. At the time of writing this review, one offer we did find was one to subscribe for newsletters and get 10% of the next order.

Payment Methods

You won’t want to make purchase in an online store only to find that none of the payment methods the store supports is available in your territory for making payments. Thus, the ideal store will support a wide range of payment methods so that no matter where you are located, you’ll easily find one of the supported methods for paying for your orders.

In this regards, Aspesi accepts payments made with Credit cards and debits cards such as Visa and Mastercard. The store also accepts payment with Klarna in certain countries. Typical of online fashion stores, Aspesi does not accept checks (cheques). There is also no support for the web wallets or bank transfer options. However, in a move that is rarely seen amongst the fashion retailing stores, Aspesi accepts COD (cash on delivery) payments. However, COD payment is only available in the EU and in Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, and Vatican City. It’s a good one that COD is accepted at all, because it is one form of payment that we don’t see often used by the online fashion stores. However, in some of the countries where COD is allowed, it comes with minimum order requirement. These are: Italy = €3000; Belgium = €3000; Spain = €2499; Greece = €500; Portugal = €1000; France = €750; Sweden = SEK 3000.

Aspesi also had a financing plan, but it is for customers in Germany paying via Klarna. The offer allows you to shop now and pay later in month installments at least €6.95. However, there’s a €0.45 monthly fee associated with every monthly payment.

Shipping

After placing an order in any online store, the package has to be shipped to where you’ll take delivery of it. Thus, shipping is an important consideration when looking at online stores. The most important shipping elements will include: shipping destinations, shipping cost and shipping times.

Shipping Destinations

If an online store does not ship to where you are resident and will like to receive the package, there’s no point ordering from the store. Thus, you’ll want an online store to ship to many worldwide locations so that your location will more likely be covered.

In this regards, Aspesi does relatively well. The luxury fashion store ships to over 100 countries around the world. This covers locations in Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania and the Americas.

Shipping Times

After placing your order, you won’t want the package to take forever before it is delivered to you. Thus, the ideal online store is one that offers fast delivery. Total delivery time is determined by order processing time and package transit time. Thus, fast delivery is determined by fast order processing and fast moving of the package.

Aspesi does very well on the former. The store endeavors to process all orders within 24 hours; and any order placed (and accepted) before 12:00 A.M CET will be dispatched on the same day. This is relatively fine, as there are stores that take up to 3 days or more to process orders.

With respect to the latter (transit times), Aspesi also does relatively fine. There are different delivery options; and the chosen option as well as the country the order is shipping to determine how long delivery takes.

Standard delivery to most European Countries takes 3 – 4 working days, while it takes 4 – 6 working days to others such as Sweden, Norway, Andorra, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Romania, and Portugal. There is also Express delivery, which to some European Countries takes 2 working days, but for countries such as Norway, Sweden, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia, the Express Delivery is Next Day delivery.

There is only one delivery option for Russia, South Korea, the US, and the rest of the world. Delivery to South Korea takes 2 – 3 days; delivery to Russia takes 20 – 25 working days; while delivery to the US and the rest of the world takes 3 – 4 working days.

Except for delivery to Russia, you’ll be hard pressed to find another online fashion store that will better the delivery times of Aspesi. These advertised times commence from date of dispatch; and since Aspesi dispatches orders quickly because of their relatively fast order processing time, the store is able to offer fast delivery.

It should also be said that Aspesi makes several attempts to deliver the package. If the Courier does not find anyone at the indicated address, it will take back the package; but it will try to deliver the package three more times, leaving a card with instructions on each occasion. You’ll also be contacted by email if delivering the package proves unsuccessful (because of not at home) after three days.

If you’ve seen customers’ reviews of other stores, you’ll find that one of the reasons for lost packages is not-at-home deliveries. That said; Aspesi’s policy of delivering the package to someone at home is a welcome development, which will go a long way go reducing incidences of lost packages because of not-at-homes.

Also, Aspesi orders are delivered Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. If you want Saturday delivery, evening delivery or Special/ Designated Day delivery, Aspesi cannot serve you, and you’ll have to check another online fashion store.

Shipping Cost

Since shipping costs are added to the item purchase costs in getting the total spend on any item; high shipping costs can easily make an item that is acceptably priced too expensive to acquire. Thus the ideal online fashion store should offer shipping costs that are as low as possible.

The lowest possible shipping cost is zero; that is free shipping. Unfortunately, Aspesi was not offering free shipping at the time of writing this review. However, it was stated in their “Shipping Information” page that the store run free shipping promotions from time to time. A shipping promotion was actually running at the time of writing; but it was a 50% discount on shipping to 66 of the over 100 countries that the store delivers to.

Also the applicable shipping rates are flat rates which mean that you will not pay more for shipping as your order increases in size or weight. Standard shipping cost €8.00 to locations in Italy and £13.00 to the UK, while it cost €15 – €22.00 to the other European Countries served. The exception is Standard Shipping to Denmark (kr 135.00), Sweden (kr 226.00), and Norway (kr 144.00). Express Shipping cost €12.00 to Italy, £22.00 to the UK; and €25.00 – €48.00 to the other European Countries served except Denmark (which is kr 186.00), Sweden (which is kr 257.00) and Norway (which is kr 241.00). For the other locations that the store ships to where only one shipping option is available; shipping cost: € 30.00 (to South Korea), € 55.00 (to Russia), $ 25.00 (to the US), and € 55.00 (to the rest of the world).

Customers in the US will find that they are faced with higher shipping cost than they are used to. This is because many of the online fashion stores are US based; thus, shipping rates within the domestic market is low. However, Aspesi’s orders will be shipping from Milan (Italy).

Return Policy

A review of an online store is not complete without considering its return policy. This is because there is the possibility that a customer may not be satisfied with his/ her purchase and will want to return it to the online store. Some important considerations are return window, ease of return process, and cost of return.

Return Process

Returning an Aspesi item to the store is quite straight forward. When you choose to return any item from an Aspesi order, you’ll have to first cancel the contract for that item. This is simply notifying the company in writing (via post or email) of your wish to cancel and return a particular item. Upon receipt of your notice of contract cancellation, you’ll be mailed a Return Authorization Number (RAN) number. You’ll have to put this (RAN) on the Returns Proforma Invoice that comes with the order, and include it with the item in the return package.

Aspesi includes Return Labels with orders. You’ll have to attach the Return Label to the return package, after which you’ll mail the package to Aspesi. Where the return label is not with the order, you’ll get a ‘Waybill’ from the Courier and fill it with the following details:

Return Window

Online fashion stores do not allow forever for the return of unwanted items. They give a specific time period, and only returns received within the period will be accepted. Thus, you’ll want an extended period so that your return package will not go in late and be rejected.

In this regards, Aspesi allows up to 14 days from the day of receiving the item for you to cancel the order; and after cancelling your order, Aspesi gives another 14 days within which the item should be returned to the company. However, this should not be interpreted that the total return window is 28 days; because after cancelling the contract and receiving the Return Authorization Number (RAN), there is actually only 14 days to return the item. This is a relatively smaller window than most fashion stores give. Thus, after receiving the RAN, you’ll have to act fast in mailing Aspesi the return package so that the returned items will not be received late.

Refund

After returning an item to a store, you won’t want to wait forever before getting your refund. Thus, the ideal online store will be one that offers fast refund processing. In this regard, Aspesi makes refunds within 30 days after receiving the returned items. This is relatively long, as there are stores that process returns and dispatch refunds in less time.

Refunds are made via the original payment method. However, for COD payments, you’ll have to provide a bank account that will be credited. It’s a good thing that refunds are made as cash to the bank account, and not as store credits. As cash in your account, you may go to another store for your purchase, whereas the store credits would have restricted you to making your purchases from the particular store.

Customer Support Service

The ideal online store will have an effective customer support department. This is important because customers will always have questions about the store and its offering, and there should be provisions for answering these questions. Also, no matter how effectively a store runs, there will be customers who’ll have issues with their orders, and there should be provision for quickly resolving these. So except you’ll want to be left hanging when you have question or issues, you’ll want a store with a effective customer support service.

The effectiveness of the customer support service is measured by the variety of support channels available, and the responsiveness of the channels. With regard to the first, Aspesi does relatively well. The first stop to getting answers from Aspesi is an FAQ section of their website. The section answers some of the questions that customers have asked in the past, such as how to make a purchase, account creation, how to return orders, tracking orders etc. However, you may find the FAQ section to be not exhaustive.

If that’s the case there are the contact support channels that allow you to deal with a support agent of the company. Aspesi supports an e-mail service, a live chat service, and a telephone service. In certain situations (cancelling orders), you may write the customer service a letter using the address:

With either method, you’ll get a response in your inbox within a few hours of dropping your submission.

It’s good to see support for a wide range of contact options. However, the support service is not available 24/ 7. The live chat and the telephone service are active only between 10am – 6pm (GMT+1) from Monday to Friday. We like that a world facing platform have a round the clock support service so that there will be no problem of the support service being available only in the downtime of customers in another time zone. Thus, it was a little disappointing that Aspesi’s support service is only available in the weekdays, and in the working hours of the local time.

Summary

Aspesi comes out as a luxury fashion shop, holding not many but high end quality items. That says much about prices; luxury items means that prices are not “low and affordable”, and it doesn’t help that there are not many cost saving offers. However, Aspesi have the product – timeless, sophisticated but simple styles, made from literally the best materials. They also provide good service to boot. Aspesi process orders within 24 hours and are able to offer fast delivery, and returns are relatively easy albeit with a relatively short window. If you meet a roadblock in the Aspesi journey, they have an effective customer support service that you can reach via multiple channels.

If you have a lot of friends who’ll be willing and able to spend more than $75 on their first purchase from Fashion Nova, you’ll earn a lot of free money with which you can get some nice things from the store for yourself.

Shipping

Shipping is second only to price as an influencer of online purchases. Two important considerations are shipping cost and shipping time.

Only “no rush” delivery which takes 6 to 10 business days is available to shipment outside the US. Interestingly, you can also get free shipping in Fashion Nova. The free shipping offer is designed to make you spend more in the store, as you’ll qualify for it only if your order (after all discounts and coupons have been applied) is over a specified amount. Customers in the US and Canada will get free shipping if their order is over $75; while customers shipping to UK and any other country will get free shipping only if their order is over $125.

It is impressive that Fashion Nova gives free shipping at all, as not many online fashion stores offers free shipping. With that, your expenditure on items will be the total of their advertised prices only.

However, since free shipping comes only when you’ve spent up to a particular amount, it’s important to consider how much that is, because you wouldn’t want to break the bank just to get free shipping. In this regard, Fashion Nova free shipping policy is definitely not the best we’ve seen. There are some fashion stores that ship free to the US and internationally for orders over $50 and $100 respectively. That’s $25 better than what Fashion Nova offers.

With the payment options supported, it will be hassle free to make payment in the online store from anywhere you may be. However, it’ll be pleasing to see support for payment channels such as e-wallets and crypto currencies. Fashion Nova allows only 30 days from the time of taking delivery for you to make any returns. Any returns that does not get back to their distribution center within 30 days of the delivery date (with a completed return slip), is considered a stale return, and is subject to being rejected.

Condition of returns

The items you return to Fashion Nova will be assessed, and only if approved will they process a refund for you.

For the returns to be approved, they must get back to Fashion Nova in their original state. The items must be free of any stains (from make-up, deodorant etc); they must be unworn and unwashed; and they must still have the original tags attached, including all paperwork, packaging, and accessories.

Final Sale Items

There are certain items that cannot be returned, no matter the reason you might have for wanting to return them.

This is not peculiar to Fashion Nova; almost all online fashion stores categorize certain items as “final sale items” that are not returnable. That position is understandable, as in most cases it has to do with health and hygiene concerns.

Items that you cannot return to Fashion Nova includes cosmetics and beauty products, bodysuits, swimsuits, and undergarments. Curiously, Fashion Nova also considers all item ending in $.96, $.97, $.98 as final sales items.

Cost of returns

However, the returns policy might not be the best you’ll want as a customer because it states amongst other things that Fashion Nova does not refund your returns shipping cost unless you received a damaged item.

So if you have issues with sizing or quality of an item, you can return it but at your own cost. And even when you do receive a damaged item, the customer support team will have to assess the damage (via a picture of the damaged item you’re required to email them), and give the green light, if you are to be refunded the shipping cost for the returns.

Another thing of worry is that Fashion Nova does not provide return labels. Many online fashion retailers use returns shipping labels to make it easy and convenient for customers to return items to them. These labels are prepaid and pre-addressed, and all the customer need do is attach one to the returns package and drop it off at a post office. Even if the returns is not free, the customer need not worry about the cost of returns shipping; because the label is prepaid and the cost will be deducted when the refund is being issued.

But in Fashion Nova, without a returns shipping label, you’ll have to pay for returns shipping when dropping off your returns package with the carrier.

Refund

Upon receipt of the returns, Fashion Nova will process your refund and you’ll get your payment in 5 to 7 days after. The refund is issued not as cash credit to your bank account via the original payment method, but as store credit which you can use for future purchases in the store. You’ll receive an e-gift card to the tune of the returns shipping cost (if applicable) plus the original payment for the item. The returns shipping cost refunded is only up to $10.00.

It is annoying that you only get free returns for damaged items; and even more so that Fashion Nova cap the refund at $10.00. It means that if the shipping cost of your returns is over $10.00, you’ll have to cover the rest. Having to pay for the returns of items that get to you damaged is not a pleasant experience. In my opinion, receiving damaged items is a kill-joy, and the shop should even be paying you for that.

Another annoyance with the returns policy is that you get your refunds only in stores credits. This effectively forces you to buy from them again. And it has to be online, as you cannot use the e-gift card issued to buy from one of their brick and mortar stores.

Many online fashion stores issue refund to customers’ bank account using the original method of payment. To all the many customers who would want refunds in their bank account, it would be a deal breaker that FashionNova issues refunds in store credits instead.

Customer Support

When shopping online, there might be need to contact the company if you have questions or complaints. Therefore, it’s important to consider the channels that the company makes available for contacting them, as well as whether the channels are helpful or not.

Fashion Nova has a support team that is available 24/ 7 to provide any needed assistance. To reach them, you can submit a support ticket using an online ticket form available in their website. Alternatively, you can reach them by sending a email using the email address: info@fashionnova.com.

In either case, they will get back to you via email, and the response is fast. Fashion Nova endeavour to respond to all support submissions within 24 hours. It’s impressive that they give prompt response; because the practice of some online platforms in not responding to inquiries/ queries for up to 2 days can be very frustrating.

However, there are many customers who’ll want instant feedback channels that will allow instantaneous responses. Such channels include live chat and telephone service. Unfortunately, Fashion Nova does not support any of such channels in providing assistance to customers.

It also doesn’t help that return shipping labels are not provided, or that after returning items, your refund is issued not as cash to your bank account, but as store credit (e-gift cards).

Boden is a British Brand that advertises as “adding colour and fun to the world”. If colour and fun are not the key words you’ll want the go-to fashion destination to shout, the brand also claims to be quality-obsessed.

The big question is whether these are just advert blurbs, or whether Boden really stands as a fashion place that features quality yet functional styles. If they do have the product, what about the service? Does Boden offer the service that we’ll expect of the go-to fashion destination (such as easy ordering, fast delivery, easy returns, effective customer support service, etc)? In the first place, is Boden legit?

This Boden review will examine Boden in order to provide the information that’ll help you answer these questions and more.

Boden is a legit fashion store. It is not a scam because we have witnessed many customers that received the products they purchased from the store. And your money and credit card details are safe on the platform as well.

Boden was started by Johnie Boden, with an 8 piece men’s wear collection, in 1991. The site was not born at the time, so sales were via mail order catalogue.  Within a year, women’s wear was added; and true to Boden’s “adding colour and fun to the world” mantra, the stylish women’s wear featured distinctive bold colours and vibrant prints. Children’s wear followed soon after; and in 1999 the Boden website was launched.

The launch of the site caused the Boden brand to grow further. Before long their first retail outlet was opened in London. Boden started serving the internationally markets; starting with the US, then moving to Germany, Austria, France, Australia, and most recently China. The baby collection was added sometime in 2004; and 10 years later, Boden launched a collection of jewels embellished flats.

Boden currently operates three stores in London; and as part of a partnership with John Lewis made in 2017, you can also see a limited edition of Boden’s women’s wears in selected John Lewis concessions. Is Boden safe?

Except the online store you use for your purchases is safe, your sensitive data (such as personal data and transaction data) will leak out to the third parties, and you’ll be exposed to cyber fraudsters. Thus, using a safe store is a no-brainer.

Inventory Size

While, the ideal store, having a variety of products is important, it’s even more important that the store have a sizeable inventory in each product section. That way, you’ll have a huge selection to choose from when shopping; and you’ll be more likely to find something that matches your preferences and budget.

Boden does somewhat okay in this regards. For example, at the time of writing this review, in the women category: there were 378 items in the dresses section, there were 71 item in the shorts and blouses section, while there were 91 items in the trousers section. With those numbers, you’ll have your selection needs catered to when shopping items in the women category.

The men’s category was not as well stocked as the women’s category. There were 69 items in the Tops and Polos section, 53 items in the shirt section, and 39 items in the Trousers and Jeans section. However, the number of items in other sections bothers on too few. For example, there were only 14 items in the men’s Coats and Jackets section, and only 6 items in the Sweats section.

The children’s category fared as the men’s category, with some sections well stocked while others were well lacking in numbers. For example, Girls dresses section featured 200 items, but activewear section featured only 14 items. Also Boys’ Sweatshirts and Fleeces featured 36 items, while the knitwear section featured only 14 items.

That said; tens of items in some sections of the men’s and kids’ category might not be enough to cater to the selection needs of some customers. Thus, we’ll like to see Boden increase their inventory in some of these product sections.

Product Quality

When accessing the products in a store, product quality is even more important than product variety or inventory size. You’ll want the ideal store to feature only top quality items, so that even when you select an item with your eyes closed, you’re sure to still find its quality satisfactory.

Boden does very well in this regards. High quality clothing should feature good materials, good tailoring, and, most importantly, durability. You’ll find that Boden items ticks most quality boxes. However, we’ll give Boden flying marks in the quality section because they stand by their products. Boden offers a 365 days Quality Guarantee, which allows customers to return items to Boden until one year after the delivery date. However, the “365 days Quality Guarantee” is not regular returns of items that do not meet your quality expectations upon receipt; rather, it is for returns of items that during use are found not to satisfactorily meet certain quality expectations. For example, things like “wear and tear” are included in the guarantee; meaning that if, during use, the item falls apart or loses color earlier than expected, it can still be returned to Boden. We’ve reviewed a lot of online fashion stores; and not many stand by their products with this kind of Quality Guarantee.

Price, Promotions and Related Policies

Prices

One of the first things you’ll see when shopping is the prices of items. It’s a no-brainer that prices that are perceived as unreasonably high will put off customers. Thus, the ideal store should feature prices that are reasonable.

Though the prices of Boden are not the lowest you’ll find in the market, they come out as reasonable. For example, at the time of writing this review, in the women category, most of the Dresses were priced at £50 – £140, most of the blouses were priced at £55 – £110, while the women trousers were priced at £55 – £90. To get prices well below £50, you’ll have to go to the Leggings section where items were priced at £20 – £22.

The men’s items were similarly priced.  Men’s Tees and Polos were priced at £25 – £60, Sweats were priced at £50 – £60 at full price, Shirts were priced at £45 – £60, overshirts were about £70, while Coats and Jackets were priced at £150 – £330.

To put these prices in perspective, the real low and affordable fashion stores will have a lot of items with prices well below the £50 mark. That said; that most items listed in Boden pushed a little above the £50 tells you that Boden is just a little overpriced. Also, the really expensive or high priced fashion stores have most of their items in three figures with a few entering four figures. That said; that only a few items in Boden were above £100 tells you that Boden is not by any means an expensive or high priced store.

Promotions

Almost every customer want to be able to buy items for less than the items’ full prices; or better still, to get free items (Free items can be gotten in special deals where the customer buys a particular number of items). Since customers are on the lookout for promotional offers, the promotions offered by a store are an important consideration when reviewing fashion stores.

In this regard, Boden does not particularly shine. Stores that are generous with promotions feature a lot of price slashing offers on the website; but the landing page of the Boden website had no promotional offer on show. We had to go to the Clearance (Sales) page to find discounted items. These items presented huge cost saving opportunities as some were up to 70% off. Interestingly, there were quite a number of items. At the time; women’s clearance featured 1353 items, men’s clearance featured 93 items, girls’ clearance featured 230 items, boys’ clearance featured 119 items, while baby clearance featured 30 items.

Other than the knock off prices of the Clearance items, we didn’t find any other saving opportunity. The “buy X get 1 free” kind of offers that nets buyers free products were not available; we also couldn’t find anything like student discounts, or  even the popular one-off offer to get something off the next purchase by subscribing to the store’s newsletter.  

Payment Method

You’ll want a store that supports payment methods that are readily available, so that finding one for paying for your orders will not be difficult. Thus, the idea fashion store should support a wide range of easily accessible payment methods.

In this regards, Boden accept payment with PayPal, as well as with most credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, and AMEX). The supported options are popular options that can be easily accessed globally; as such, finding a means to pay for Boden orders shouldn’t be an issue. However, the supported options bother on too few. There is no support for the web wallets, crypto currencies, cheques, or COD (cash on delivery) payments. Granted, these options are rare if ever found in the fashion retailing business; but there are stores that accept some form of bank transfer options, while Boden doesn’t support that at all.

Shipping

Any item ordered online will have to be shipped to where the buyer will take possession of it. Thus, shipping almost always goes hand in hand with online purchases. The most important shipping considerations include: shipping destinations, shipping times, and shipping costs.

Boden does quite okay in this regards. The store divides its reach into three; its domestic UK market, Europe and the rest of the world.

The rest of the world include 39 countries which are: Antigua, Aruba, Australia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Bermuda, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Curacao, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Korea (South), Kuwait, Malaysia, Martinique, New Zealand, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, St Barthelemy, St Martin, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates.

This would mean that Boden ships to only 73 international locations. While this much better than stores that faces only their domestic markets, it’s still short of a real global reach.

Shipping Times

Except you’ll not mind if your orders take forever to be delivered, you’ll want an online fashion store with fast delivery. Boden does relatively well in this regards.

For delivery to UK locations, there are a number of delivery options for customers to choose the option that works best for them. There is a Standard delivery which takes 2 – 3 working days to deliver the order to your door; and there is the Royal Mail delivery option, which takes only 1 – 2 working days. There are two Express delivery options. The first variant is the regular Next Day delivery option which will get your package to you the day following order placement; while the second variant is the Express By Noon, which will get the package to you the next day following order placement, but before noon.

Boden also offers in-store collection, where you can have the package sent to a store closest to you (either a Boden store or any other store in their “Click and Collect” program), after which you’ll visit the store to pick up the order.  Click and Collect (in-store pick up) orders are usually ready for collection the next day following order placement.

However, it should be said that for the Express orders and Click and Collect orders to be delivered the Next Day, they must be submitted before 7.00 pm on the day of order placement (Sunday to Friday). If you’ve seen other reviews, you’ll find that this is very good. First, Boden processes such orders from Sunday to Fridays unlike most stores that’ll only process such orders from Mondays to Thursdays. This means that Boden processes Express orders on Sundays, and delivers on Saturdays.

Also, the cut off time of 7.00 pm for the placement of Express (Next Day) order is a wider window than we often find. Usually, online fashion stores cut off Next day order placement much earlier (12:00 pm – 2:00pm); while the most generous stores allow order placement only up to at most 4:00 pm.

For international delivery, Boden offers only the options of Standard delivery and Premium delivery. For European orders; Standard delivery takes 6 – 8 working days, while Premium delivery takes 3 – 5 working days. For “the rest of the world” orders; Standard delivery takes 8 – 10 working days, while Premium delivery takes 5 – 6 working days. However, the Premium delivery does not apply to orders travelling to Australia or China.

Shipping Cost

Most often than not, the cost of acquiring merchandise is more than the merchandise’s purchase price. Another element of the acquisition cost is shipping costs. Any increase in shipping costs increases the acquisition cost by the same amount; such that high shipping costs can easily make it too expensive to acquire a product. Therefore, the ideal online fashion store should offer shipping costs that are as low as possible.

Since the lowest number is zero; the lowest possible shipping cost is $0.00 (that is, free shipping). Thankfully, Boden offers that; albeit to only UK customers. The Click and Collect orders that’ll be shipped to Boden stores within the UK are shipped free. Also, UK customers can get free shipment to their door (via the Standard delivery option) if they spend over £30.

We didn’t like that the free shipping offer applies to only UK customers; after all, customers in other parts of the world also like the freebies. But looking beyond that, you’ll find that the offer is good. For one, the minimum order requirement is a low £30. Many of the competing online fashion stores will require you to spend up to three figures to qualify for free shipping. That said; the £30+ order free shipping offer of Boden means that you won’t have to overspend in order to qualify for free shipping.

Where free shipping does not apply (UK orders under £30 or international orders) Boden charges flat shipping rates. This is also very good, as it means what you pay for shipping will not go increase even as you add items into your order.

For UK orders: Click and Collect orders shipping to retail outlets other than Boden stores will cost £3.50, the standard delivery cost £3.00, the Royal Mail cost £5.00, the regular Express shipping cost £5.75, while the Express By Noon delivery cost £8.00. For European orders; Standard shipping cost £6.00, while Premium delivery cost £7.50. Lastly for other international orders, Standard shipping cost £12.00 while Premium delivery cost £15.00.

Return

A look at online fashion stores for your online purchases should not be done without also looking the return policies of the stores. There are many reason you could want to return an item to the store (ranging from size difference, to receiving defective items, and more); and you’ll not want to be stuck with an unwanted item because the store does not support returns.

Thankfully, Boden wants to ensure you remain a happy customer, and will accept returns of orders that do not meet your expectations.

Return Process

If you decide to return an item back to the store, it means something is wrong. That’s frustrating enough, and you don’t want a cumbersome return process to add to the frustration. Thus, the ideal online fashion store should offer easy hassle-free returns.

Boden ticks the box in this regards. You can return the Boden items you purchased online to store (by taking the unwanted item to any Boden store) or by mail (by mailing the unwanted item to Boden’s warehouse). This is a good one because in-store returns are very convenient. It should be said that not many online fashion stores allow this; the policy is usually: online purchases are to be returned by mail, while only in-store purchases are to be returned in-store. However, if you return your online purchase to store, the return/ refunds will not be processed in the store. The store will forward it to the Boden warehouse who will then process it.

Returning your Boden order by mail is also very easy. Apart from packaging the item(s), you only have to fill and enclose the form attached to your delivery note. There is another form that you can fill and submit so Boden will know you are returning an item; but this is not compulsory. Unlike many other fashion stores that require you to contact them for authorization before returning any item, in Boden there are such things like seeking a RAN (Return Authorization Number).

Items that can be returned

Boden allows returns of almost all items bought from the store. Unlike most stores that do not accept returns of Sales items, Boden accepts returns of both Sales (discounted) items and full price items. However, there is a catch as we’ll find in the next section (return window). However, it’s good that sales items can be returned, because owing to the low prices featured in the sales section, many customers will be shopping from the section.

However, there are some items that are final sales items, which cannot be returned to Boden. This include Earrings (where the internal packaging seal has been broken), and Swimwear (where the hygiene strips has been removed. It should be said that where the hygiene seals are intact, these items can be returned to Boden. Thus, Boden’s return policy is friendlier in this respect that most stores that refuse to accept returns of all pierced jewelry and intimates whether or not the hygiene seals are intact.  

That said; items that are to be returned to Boden must be in their original conditions. They must not show sign of usage, damage or alteration.

Return Window

Retail stores only accept returns of items sent to them within a time period.  Thus, so that you’ll not find yourself racing against time when you have items to return to the retailer, you’ll want an extended return window.

Boden does very well in this regards. Their “no questions asked” return policy is with a window of 3 months from receipt of items. That is, the store will accept a Boden item you return to them if the item is received not later than 3 months after it is delivered to you. This is a very generous return window that trumps those of many stores in the business. To put this in perspective, the industry standard return window is 30 days from the date of delivery.

However, the 3 months return window applies only to items bought at full prices, and not to Sales (discounted) items. For sales items, you’ll have to cancel within 14 days of receiving the item; after which, the unwanted item must be sent (and received by Boden) within 14 days of cancellation.

Cost of Returns

You don’t want to be hindered from returning an item to its retailer because of high costs. Thus, you’ll want the ideal store to offer cost of returns that are as low as possible.

Once again, Boden goes the extra mile for customers in its domestic market by offering them free returns. That is, customers will not need to pay return shipping to return any UK order. However, international orders will have to pay for return shipping. Boden works with ReBound for international returns. The cost of return shipping charged by ReBound depends on the country the item will be shipping from, and whether tracking service will apply. At the time of writing this review, the return shipping cost range from €6.50 (from Ireland with tracked post) to €20.85 (from Greece with tracked post).

Given that except for a couple of countries (The Netherlands, Spain and Portugal), the return shipping cost for every other country was in double figure, it’s safe to say that cost of international returns is a little on the high side.

Refunds Processing

Another important consideration in a store’s returns policy is “how” and “when” you’ll get back the amount you paid for an item after returning the item to its retailer. Boden does very well in this regards.

In terms of “how”, as long as the returned item is received by Boden within three months of the delivery date, they’ll give you a full refund of your payment for the item via the original payment method. This gives customers the choice of using the funds for future purchases in Boden or going to another store. This is better than fashion stores who only issues store credits for returns, which restricts the customer to using the funds in the particular store.

Refund for the items coming in under the 365 days Quality Guarantee is as follows: if the return is made within 6 months of the delivery date, Boden will give you a refund of the amount you paid (via your original payment method); but if the return is made after 6 months (but within one year) of the delivery date, Boden will issue you store credits for the amount paid for the item.

In terms of “when”, Boden processes qualifying returns within 14 days of receipt of the returned item(s). You’ll have to allow a few extra days for the amount to be reflected in your balance, after which you’ll your funds available to you. This is not the fast “refund processing time” that we’ll have wanted, but it’s relatively fine considering that some fashion retailers can have you waiting for upward of one month to get your refund.

Exchanges

Most times, customers return items not for a refund, but to get another item as a replacement. Stores that allow such product exchanges are desired because exchanges allow customers to get the replacement item relatively faster. The store will send the replacement item immediately after processing your return saving you the time of having to wait to get refunded before placing another order.

Thankfully, Boden allows product exchanges. Also, apart from that Boden does not process exchanges for items purchased with PayPal, their exchange policy makes for good reading. First, they allow the same 3 months return window, which gives you enough time to make up your mind. Also, they allow style exchange unlike many fashion stores that only allow size or color exchanges. That is, in most stores, when returning an item for an exchange, you can only request a different colour or size of the same style you are returning. But in Boden, you can return one style, and request a different style entirely as replacement. It doesn’t even matter that what you want to exchange the item for is cheaper or more expensive. If cheaper, Boden will refund you the price difference; and if more expensive, Boden will require extra payment to match the price of the more expensive item.

Customer Support Service

If you have questions about the store and its offerings, you’ll want answers. Also, if you have issues with your order, you’ll want effective resolution. Thus, the ideal online fashion store should provide for handling customers’ questions and issues.

Boden also does well in this regards. The store provides different self help articles in their website that you can purr through to get answers to many questions, especially those relating to ordering, shipping, returns, and privacy & security.

If you’ll rather contact a support rep of the store, they also provide contact channels. Hollister is an American fashion retailing Company that is more often advertises as Hollister Co. or HCo. The fashion brand is owned by another American fashion giant – Abercrombie & Fitch Co. Inventory Size

You want a good number of items in every product section so that you can choose from many when shopping. That way, you’re more likely to find something that matches your preferences and budget. Hollister does so-so in this regards. The store does not overwhelm with their inventory size. For example, at the time of writing this review, in the girls’ category, there were 62 different styles of dresses, 62 styles in the Shirt and Blouses section, 18 different styles in the coats and Jacket section, and 27 different styles in the skirts section and so on. Also, in the guy’s category, there were: only 25 different Coats and Jackets, and only 91 items in the Hoodies and Sweatshirts section.

You’ll easily find fashion stores that offer hundreds of items in each product section. Though, Hollister’s inventory will pale in comparison to such stores, Hollister does not leave you short. In each product section, their inventory is sizeable enough to serve your selection needs.

Prices, Promotions and Related Policies

Prices

One of the first things customers see when making purchases is price. No one will like to pay what is perceived as unreasonable for a fashion piece; thus, the ideal fashion store should feature prices that are low and reasonable.

Hollister was established to be a cheaper alternative of Abercrombie & Fitch teen-targeted clothing; thus, you’ll expect that the store features prices that are competitive. Hollister has lived up to this. Items in the store are by about 20% cheaper than you’ll find in Abercrombie & Fitch; and they come out as low and affordable when compared to other stores in the market.

For example, at the time of writing this review, in the girls’ category: dresses were priced at $34.95 – $59.95, coats and jackets were priced at $49.95 – $79.95, Shirts and Blouses were priced at $19.95 – $39.95, while skirts were priced at $24.95 – $49.95. The items in the men category were also well priced. Coats and Jackets were priced at $59.95 – $99.95, while Hoodies and Sweatshirts were priced at $34.95 – $59.95.

When going through Hollister for this review, we didn’t find a single item in the store that was priced in three figures (that is, $100 or more). On the contrary, many of their items were less than or around the $50 mark. To put Hollister’s prices in perspective, stores that feature prices around the $50 mark are widely regarded as cheap and affordable. Thus, Hollister qualifies as a store with affordable pricing.

Promotions

Promotions are cost saving opportunities, because they allow customers to obtain items free of charge or for less than the items’ full prices. As a result, customers are attracted to stores that run regular and huge promotions. Thus, when reviewing fashion stores, the size of the stores’ promotional packages (if any) is an important consideration.

Because Hollister offers very competitive prices, we didn’t expect to find many promotions. And there weren’t either. In fact, at the time of writing this review, to buy anything in Hollister for less than the full price, you’ll have to go to the sales page, where certain items had as much as 60% off.

Price Adjustment

The ideal fashion retailer is one where you’ll get the best value. One value giving feature of retailers is price adjustment. Thankfully, Hollister is one of the few fashion retailers that offer price adjustment. If within days of making a purchase in Hollister, the item is listed lower than the amount you paid for it, you can request for price adjustment and Hollister will credit you the difference.

You only have to request the adjustment within 14 days of placing your order. This is a wider window than is most often seen. Also, each Hollister item is eligible for only one price adjustment.

Payment Method

One of the elements of a smooth payment process is support for a wide range of payment options. You’ll want a variety of options so that no matter where you are resident, you can easily find a means to pay for your orders.

Hollister does very well in this regards. In fact you’ll be hard pressed to find a fashion retailer that support more payment options than Hollister. Shipping Times and Shipping Cost

That customer does not exist who, after placing an order, will be willing to wait forever for the package to be delivered. For delivery to the US, there are three delivery options – Standard, Two Days, and Next Day. The Standard shipping takes 4 – 9 business days to deliver to most areas while delivery to some other area can take up to 14 days.  The delivery option cost $7.00. The Two Day option delivers as its name suggest (within two days), and it cost $15.00. Lastly, the Next Day delivery option cost $22.00 and will have your order at your door the very next day after placement. However, for the expedited options (Two days delivery and Next day delivery), the orders will have to be placed before 2.00pm (EST) between Monday and Friday. Also, it should be said that delivery to Hawaii and Alaska may take 10 – 15 business days, while delivery to the US Territories and APO/ FPO addresses will take up to three weeks for delivery.

When shipping to Canada, there are only two options – Standard Shipping which takes 5 – 7 business days, and Express Air Shipping which takes 3 – 5 business days. However, the cost of the shipment is also influenced by the order amount as follows: For orders less than $100, Standard shipping cost $15, while Express Air shipping cost $20; for orders of $101 – $300, Standard shipping is $25, while Express Air shipping is $30; for orders of $301 – $500, Standard shipping is $30, while Express Air shipping is $35; and for orders over $500, standard shipping cost $35, while Express Air shipping cost $40.

For almost every other international location that Hollister ships to, the store offers Economy shipping which takes 7 – 11 working days, and Standard shipping which takes 5 -8 working days. For Australia and South Korea, Economy orders cost $15 while Standard orders cost $20; but for the others locations Economy orders cost $20, while Standard orders cost $35.

When it comes to shipping costs, the lowest possible cost is zero, which is free shipping. Thankfully, Hollister offers free shipping. Hollister does better than most stores because their free shipping offer is not restricted to their domestic US market. Often we find that fashion stores who trumpet free shipping restrict the offer to only domestic orders, while shipping must be paid for all international orders. But is Hollister free shipping is available for every location that the store ships to. For all US orders, the free shipping offer is for the Standard shipping; while for all international orders, it is for the Economy shipping option.

However, as typical of fashion stores, the free shipping offer comes with minimum order requirement. You’ll only get free shipping in Hollister if your order is above $99.00. While you can find stores that’ll ship free of charge with order qualifying amount of only $50, the $99+ requirement of Hollister is not too high. Thus, you won’t have to overspend just so your order can qualify for free shipping.

Returns

It’s no news that customers return a chunk of purchases back to the retailers. There are so many reasons customers will have for returning merchandise, which range from receiving a defective item, to ordering a wrong size, to buyers’ remorse (buyer having change of mind about the purchase). Thus, the return policy of an online fashion store is an important consideration. The important things to look out for include: return window, returnable items, cost of return, and refunds processing.

Return Process

Like any serious fashion retailer, Hollister accept returns of their merchandise if the customer is not totally satisfied with it. The process is relatively easy. Returns can either be done in-store or via mail. For in-store return, you only have to take the unwanted merchandise (along with its invoice) to any of the many Hollister retail outlets. For returns via mail, you only have to package the unwanted merchandise, and send it to the return address. You’ll also have to include your order invoice and the reason for returning the item. While the return process is relatively easy, the easiest process will be the provision of prepaid and pre-addressed return labels that the customer can simply attach to the return package before dropping it off with a courier.

Return Window

However, customers don’t have forever to make the return. Only returns made within an allowed time frame are accepted by the store. Thus, from the customers’ perspective, the ideal store will offer an extended time so that customers will not be pressed with time when making their returns.

Hollister’s return window makes for good reading. Returns for refunds are accepted if made within 60 days of the order shipment date. Before getting excited at the 60 days window and comparing it with the 30 days that is most often seen on offer; it should be noted that the 60 days window of Hollister starts from the date the order ships from their facility. Thus, when the package is enroute to but yet to be received by the customer, the return window has started closing. However, since it would not take 30 days for shipped packages to arrive at the shipping address, the “60 days from shipment date” that Hollister offers is still better than the “30 days from delivery date” that many other stores offers.

That said, you’ll not be pressed with time when making returns, so there’s less risk of your returns getting to the store late.

However, even if your package gets to the store late (after 60 days from shipment date); it will still be accepted, but Hollister will issue your store credits. This is relatively fine because many of the fashion retailers, even with smaller return windows, will not accept returns reaching their facilities late.

Cost of Return

If you receive merchandise from a retailer that you are not totally satisfied with, you do not want to be put off returning the items to the retailer because of the cost of making the returns. Thus, you’ll want a store that features costs that are as low as possible.

The lowest possible cost is zero, that is free returns; and there some fashion stores that offer this by assuming the cost of return shipping. However, Hollister does not offer free return. Thus, the customers will bear the cost of returns.

You may find that the return shipping costs in Hollister will be relatively higher than return shipping costs in stores where return labels are not provided. This is because with return labels the return shipping is discounted. However, though customer bear return shipping costs, and they might not be the lowest possible, at least it’s good that in Hollister, there are no such charges as restocking costs.

It should be said that in online independent platforms, you’ll find a lot of negative customers’ reviews of Hollister, and a lot of these has to do with returns especially the cost of returns.

Refunds and Refund Processing

Hollister issues refunds to the original means of payment if the items are received within the return window. However, for items received late, stores credits will be issued, which will come as e-gift card to the email used for registration. Hollister also advertises that refunds are processed and issued quickly. However, the numerous customer’s reviews in independent platforms seem to disagree, as they are rife with customers who, after returning a Hollister order, have had to wait for too long to receive their refunds.

Customer Support Service

It’s inevitable that customers will have questions and/ or complaints; thus, the ideal online fashion store should provide for handling these questions and complaints.

The first stop to getting answers in most online platforms is an FAQ page. However, we didn’t find any link to an FAQ section in all the pages of the Hollister website that we purred through. It took a search to get an FAQ nestled somewhere in one .cn extension. However, it was not detailed. That said, given the importance of an FAQ, we’ll want to find links to a detailed FAQ either in the landing page of the website or in the support pages of the website.

Because the self help resources are lacking or inadequate, if you have questions, you’ll be better off directly contacting the customer support department of Hollister. To their credit, they support a wide range of contact channels, which include social media support via twitter, an email service, a live chat service, and a telephone service.

For the twitter service, you can send your submissions to @hollistercohelp; and for the e-mail service, you can open a support ticket or send them an email directly from your email account. If you’ll rather have instant feedback, you use the live chat (accessible from the hollisterco website) or the telephone service. For telephone support, Hollister provides a number of toll free lines which means that you don’t have to worry about charges when seeking assistance from Hollister.

However, it should be said that the area where Hollister has received most negative reviews is their customer support service. The poor ratings you’ll find of Hollister in the independent customer review platforms centers around unsatisfactory service from the store’s support agents. Reviews include basic customer support failures such as the support department not responding to support submissions, or largely being unhelpful.

Summary

Hollister Co. comes out as a serious fashion retailer. The American brand is known for its Southern California (SoCal) inspired styles and offers a variety of lifestyle and casual wears. Hollister has lived up to its mission to provide excellent youthful fashion styles at knock off prices. The store features good fashion pieces and their prices are very competitive. In terms of service, they ship to some 82 worldwide locations; though the coverage is not great it is relatively good. Also, free shipping is offered to all locations, albeit for orders over $99. To ensure customer satisfaction, they have a very generous return window, and will even issue store credit if the items are returned late.

However, delivery times can be improved upon; while the cost of return is relatively high. Also, while there are different means to contact the customer support department, the evidence shows that support service tends to produce frowns than smiles.

But does AmiClubwear offer quality materials?

You want a store where you have a large collection to choose from in the different product sections. You won’t want to buy dress, only to find that the store offers only 2 or 3 different styles. In this regards, you’ll find that Ami Clubwear does well in many of their product sections. For example, at the time of writing this review, there were about: 900 different styles in the dresses section, and 180 different items in the Sweaters section.  However, the Bottoms section was not as well stocked as the other section in the clothing category. For example, there were only 42 skirts, 48 Pants, and about 100 Shorts. Other categories were well stocked; there were about 330 boots, about 1680 Heels, and over 1,740 costumes.

With the numbers provided by Ami Clubwear, you’ll have a large number of items to choose when shopping to satisfy all your selection needs.

Product Quality

You’ll want an online store to offer only top quality items so that even if you close your eyes and pick any piece, you’ll have a top quality items in your hands.

It should be said that this is one area where Ami Clubwear has received many negative reviews. You can find real quality pieces that are durable because they are well made and made from real quality materials. However, you may also find products that will not meet your quality expectations. In fact, in some reviews, you’ll find that Ami Clubwear is called a “hit and miss”.

One look at the product pages of Ami Clubwear and you’ll find that the “always low prices” statement is not just an advert blurb. For example, in the dresses section, you’ll find hundreds of gorgeous styles (maxi, midi, mini dresses, bodycons, party dresses, etc) with prices knocked down to $20 and under (the full prices being between $34.99 – $54.99). There is a host of skirts with prices knocked down to as low as $9.99 (full price $29.99); Sweaters ranged between $7.99 and $18; you’ll find a host of Pants for under $20, while shorts started from as low as $3.99.

In fact Ami Clubwear comes out as the under 20 club, because apart from clothing, you’ll find a host of other products including shoes priced at $20 and under. That said; there’s no doubt that Ami Clubwear provides very low and affordable prices. To put this in perspective, stores whose products dance around the $50 range are generally considered cheap. If you’ll be shopping within a budget, and need to get gorgeous fashion pieces, Ami Clubwear is a must-go.

Promotions

Promotions are opportunities that allow customers to get items in a store for free or for less than the full prices of the products.

If you want the best value possible from every transaction, or if you want cost saving opportunities, then you’ll want the ideal store to run a lot of promotions.

Ami Clubwear does well in this regards. When writing this review, on getting to the landing page of the website, we were greeted by a “Festival Huge Sale” promotion that promised 60% off the price of items in the entire website. Stores that are generous with promotions feature a lot of such price slashing offers.

In the product pages, we found that the tantalizing prices of items in Ami Clubwear are largely because of their cost saving offers (coupons). While their full prices are still very competitive, coupons can be applied to knock down the prices of most of the items in the store. These coupons take off as much as 80% of some items. However, as we’ll find in the section discussing returns there is one disadvantage to using these coupons and buying items at discounted prices instead of buying them at full prices.

Accepted Payment Methods

Part of a hassle free ordering process is finding a convenient method for payment no matter where you may be resident. Thus, the ideal online fashion store should support a wide range of payment methods.

In this regard, Ami Clubwear supports limited options which include PayPal and credit/ debit cards such as Visa, Master card, American Express, and Discover card. Where applicable, gift cards and prepaid cards are accepted; but they do not accept Money orders or any form of checks (Cashier Checks, Personal Checks, or Company Checks), or COD (Cash on delivery) payments.

The cards and PayPal are global options and you should not have a problem with paying for your Ami Clubwear orders no matter where you are resident. If you won’t want to be waiting for too long to receive delivery of your order, you’ll want to consider how long it takes the store to deliver. The ideal online store will feature fast delivery. Delivery time is determined by order processing time and shipping time.

All orders in Ami Clubwear take two days for processing.  That is, it takes within two days for every order placed in Ami Clubwear to leave the fulfillment center of the store. This is relatively fast as there are stores that take up to five days (or even more) to process and dispatch orders.

After dispatching the orders, how long the package takes in moving from their fulfillment center to your shipping address depends on the shipping option chosen. For domestic US orders, there are a couple of options available, which include standard (Ground) shipping and expedited (2nd Day Air) shipping. The Standard shipping takes 4 – 5 business days, while the 2nd Day shipping delivers orders in 2 business days as its name suggest. Only Standard shipping is offered for international shipping, and how long it takes depends on the particular country the package is travelling to.

While the shipping times of Ami Clubwear are relatively okay, it’s disappointing that there are no express delivery options available. For international orders, only standard shipping is available; while for US orders, the 2ND day option provided is “2nd day shipping” and not “2nd day delivery”. That is, you’ll have the package two days after it has been dispatched and released to the carrier. Since order processing takes 2 days, it means you’ll get your Ami Clubwear “2nd Day” orders in 4 days.

If you want an online fashion retailer that offers expedited delivery options such as Same Day delivery, Next Day delivery, or 2nd Day delivery (two days following order placement), you’ll have to look beyond Ami Clubwear.

Shipping Costs

The use of live rates instead of flat rates eliminates the cost savings that should’ve come from shipping one order instead of shipping multiple orders. This is because, as more items go into your one order, its weight increases, and so does its shipping cost.

This is because before returning any item to Ami Clubwear, you’ll have to contact the store and request a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. In the RMA request, you’ll have to include: the order number, the items you want to return, and the reason for wanting to return the item(s).

The RMA may take up to 2 hours to arrive in your e-mail. After receiving it, you’ll then have to package the item appropriately, write the RMA number on the outside of the package, and mail the package using any carrier of choice (but most appropriately with a carrier that offers tracking services) to the fulfillment center of Ami Clubwear (at 13001 E. Temple Ave. City of Industry CA 91746).

Though the return process is relatively easy, we are giving it only average scores because of the following:

  • Having to request and receive a RMA number before proceeding to return the item – we prefer policies where returns can be made without even having to contact the retailer
  • Stating the reasons for wanting to return an item – We prefer the no-questions-asked policy of some other stores where you don’t have to state your reasons
  • Return labels are not provided – Simply put return labels simplifies any return process. First, return labels are usually pre-addressed, so you don’t go finding the return shipping address and writing it on the return package. Secondly, the labels are usually pre-paid, so you don’t go thinking of what return shipping will cost at the point of shipping the package

Return Window

Stores give a time period within which all unwanted items must be returned; and only items received within the time period will be accepted. Thus, you’ll want an extended period, so that you won’t have to race against time when sending back your returns.

For this, Ami Clubwear allows 30 days. That is, you may return an item in your order to Ami Clubwear not later than 30 days from the date of receiving the order. This is very generous and on par with most fashion stores in the business.

Items that can be returned

Returns will only be accepted if they meet certain conditions. The items must be in their new and original conditions. Any item that shows any sign of usage will be rejected. Thus returned items must be unworn, unwashed and unaltered; they shouldn’t even have perfume smells, deodorant marks, stains etc.

However, there are certain items that are “final sales items” which cannot be returned to Ami Clubwear. These include: Swimwear and Intimates (Hosiery, lingerie, etc), Sales items, Special price/ discounted items, Clearance items, Door busters Costumes, Accessories, and all items below $13.00.

From having reviewed many online fashion stores, we find that the return policy of Ami Clubwear is stricter than most others. For example, in Ami Clubwear, too many items fall into “final sales”/ non-returnable. For example, while it’s true that most stores do not accept returns of swimwear and intimates for health reasons, there are some who will accept these items if the “hygiene seal” is not broken. Also, while sales/ clearance/ special discount items are not accepted by most stores, there are some that accept these items but with a reduced return window. And you’ll not even have to search to find stores that accept returns of accessories.

It should be said that many customers find to their frustration that they cannot return items from their Ami Clubwear orders. This is quite a frequent occurrence because Ami Clubwear does not accept returns of discounted items. However, since it is the special discounts that make prices tantalizingly low at Ami Clubwear, many customers will be applying special discount coupons when making their purchases. Thus, there is a conundrum; which is to buy at the very low prices and be unable to return the item, or to buy at the high (but still competitive) full price and be able to return the product. Note that when buying at the full prices, the “always low prices” advantage of Ami Clubwear all but disappears.

Cost of Return

You won’t want to return an item only to be put off by the cost of doing so. As a result, where costs are involved, customers typically like rates that are as low as possible, with zero (free services) being the most appealing.

Unfortunately, Ami Clubwear does not offer free returns. When returning an item to the store, you can use any carrier of your choice; and that means that you’ll be responsible for the shipping costs charged by the carrier. The absence of return labels also means that the return shipping cost will be relatively high; this is because cost charged for return labels are usually discounted.

In many stores, you’ll lose more than just return shipping cost when you return an item, because these stores also charge a restocking fee. Unfortunately, Ami Clubwear is one of such stores. They impose a restock fee of 15% – 25%. Thus, when you return an item purchased for $100, you’ll find that you’ll be refunded only $75 – $85 (at the discretion of their return department).

Ami Clubwear will only bear return shipping cost if the reason for the returns is because a wrong, damaged or defective item was delivered to you. Though, you’ll pay return shipping when returning the item, Ami Clubwear will refund you the shipping cost at the going rate for standard shipping.

Refund and Refund processing

You don’t want to wait forever after returning an item to the store before you’ll be issued your refund. Thus, you want a store that processes returns and issues refunds as fast as possible.

In Ami Clubwear, it takes 15 – 30 days to process refunds after the receipt of the returned item. It should be said that all refunds in Ami Clubwear are issued as store credits, and not as cash transfers via the original payment method. This will comes out as a big disadvantage because there are many customers who do not like store credits. In fact this is another reason for the negative reviews you’ll find about the store. The store credits you get for your returns means that you must use the funds for future purchases in Ami Clubwear; however, if cash transfer was done for returns, you may decide to go to another store for your purchases.

In fact, one problem we had with Ami Clubwear is that too many items fall into “final sales”/ non-returnable category (such as include accessories and items below $13.00).

Printful is one of 12 brands of the tech Company – Draugiem Group – which works to bring together ideas, knowledge and the latest technologies to create solutions in particular fields. The idea that has turned into Printful was birthed in 2013; and it is to create solutions in the product printing and drop shipping business field. With that explanation, it’s clear that the two essential parts of the company’s service is print products and fulfillment. Thus, Printful is a POD (Print-on-demand) order fulfillment service. In fact, Printful does one more than fulfilling POD orders, they also drop ship.

Printful stands as one of the better names in the POD order fulfilment business that’ll both print and drop ship. At the time of writing, they were over 1,150,000 sellers using already using Printful to sell customize clothing, accessories, and home & living items in different e-commerce platforms and marketplaces.

Is Printful legit?

Printful is legit. It is not a scam comapny. And they have been online for some time now without problem. It’s no longer news that there are many scam artists in cyberspace with the one objective of ripping people off. Another check of legitimacy is physical presence. It should be said that the scam stores are usually only virtual with no physical trace – there’s usually no fulfillment center, and no merchandise. However, Printful has a robust physical presence with four fulfillment centers (California (US), North Carolina (US), Riga (Latvia), and Tijuana (Mexico)).

Another check of legitimacy is whether fulfilled orders are functional or fit for purpose. This is important to many because it doesn’t matter if a company is legal or if it fulfill orders, if what is delivered amount to being useless. The quality of delivered items is the crux of this check. Suffice it to say that there is evidence that Printful have invested heavily in printing equipment (over $17 million), which should translate to good print quality; also, online reviews name Printful as one go-to destination for quality POD orders fulfillment service. Thus, it’s safe to say that Printful delivers functional (fit for purpose) items.

That said, with Printful being 100% legal, having a robust physical presence, and having a track record of fulfilling orders with functional items, there’s really no doubt that the platform is legit.

Is Printful safe?

You go for a legit store because you don’t want to be ripped off. However, if the store, though legit, is not safe, it will leave you exposed to other cyber fraudsters. Thus, the ideal e-commerce platform should be both legit and safe. How it Works

Being a Print on Demand service means Printful allow you to sell custom products (albeit only products they offer in their product catalog). Printful will allow you to create a unique item by putting your custom design on any of the products in their catalog. They’ll generate mock-ups (what the custom item will look like) which you can publish to your store and use for your advert campaigns. When a customer to you store places an order of the item, the fulfillment service of Printful swings into action.

As a fulfillment service; orders you get at your ecommerce store are automatically imported to the system of Printful, and they’ll proceed to produce the custom item. Because Printful also drop ships, after producing the custom item, they’ll ship it directly to the customer.

Ease of Use

It’s a no-brainer that you’ll want easy processes. You don’t want to have the headaches when connecting your store to a POD fulfillment platform or when using the fulfillment service to fulfill orders of custom items placed in your store. Thus, the ideal should feature ease of use both during set-up and afterwards.

One of the first considerations in this respect is the range of e-commerce platforms that the POD fulfillment app integrates with. It’ll be disappointing if you have an established store in a particular e-commerce platform only to find that the POD fulfillment service you’re thinking of using does not integrate with the e-commerce platform. Thus, you’ll want a fulfillment service that integrates with a range of platforms, so that the platform you use will more likely be covered.

In this respect, Printful does excellently well. Integrating with a wealth of platforms is an obvious advantage, but because each platform has its own features, it can become difficult to know what platform to go with. Printful helps in this regard by providing an e-commerce comparison chart that will help you decide which platform works best for you. The platforms are compared using elements such as: whether live shipping rates are provided, price, whether a personal server is required, whether products are automatically pushed to store, how fast orders placed in your store are imported from to Printful, whether shipping status update are provided, whether “out of stock” notice are displayed, and ease of installation.

After determining that Printful integrates with your e-commerce platform, connecting it to your store is a breeze.  Also, filling your store with items from Printful is also easy. The simple steps are as follows:

  • Get a custom design – For this you can create your own design, or get a design from any of the stock website. But endeavor not to take a copyrighted design so as not to have copyright trolls on your neck.
  • Pick a product to customize – For this, you’ll go to Printful product catalog, and choose a product from the selection on offer. You’ll see the detail product description (as well as Printful’s price, where the item is stocked, and shipping times, etc). If you’re okay with these details, you can click the very visible “Start designing” button on the page.
  • In the “Edit Model” page that opens, you can customize the product by uploading your custom design and/ or adding text (for text based designs) or clip arts. You’ll also see option to customize the back of the shirt, right sleeve and left sleeve. After adding your design, you can click continue.
  • You’ll see a mock-up of the custom item, which allows you to see how the custom item looks. You’ll also see pages where you can set your selling price. After that, you can place the order for the custom item (if you are an individual buyer), or publish/ save the item to your store (if you are a seller).

Buying and Selling Service

Unlike some POD services that can only be used by sellers, Printful can also be used by individual buyers. You know that online stores using Printful to fulfill orders of custom items will set a selling price higher than Printful’s asking prices in order to make a profit.

As an individual buyer, it’s good that you can use Printful directly to buy custom items, as that will be cheaper than buying from a third party store. Apart from getting items cheaper, you’ll also be able to use your own custom designs. When buying from a seller using a POD fulfillment service, you’ll only be getting fancy items that the seller has customized. But when buying directly, you’ll have the opportunity to use your own custom designs. The only drawback to buying directly is that you’ll have to go through the process of customizing the product yourself.  But as describe in the last section, that’s also fairly easy.

Custom branding options

Do you want to have just a store or a brand? It can be just a store when products drop shipped to your customers have logos and branding of the product manufacturer and the print service, but nothing of your store. However, it can be more than a store when products drop shipped have your brand all over it. With Printful Custom branding options, you can own your own brand, and your store can really become “your own”. This is because Printful is a white-label drop shipper, who will print and ship everything under your brand with custom labels, pack-ins, and other branding options; so your customers will not have a clue that it isn’t you doing everything.

Some of the branding options are:

  • Branding Stickers: You can upload a black and white design with your logo, and Printful will stick it to the outside of most of the packages that will be shipped to your customers. Interestingly, this service is free.  
  • Inside Shirt Label: There are a number of shirts with tear-away labels; if the custom item is from one of these shirts, Printful can remove the manufacturer’s label, and print your custom label directly on the shirt. Thus, the item becomes completely under your brand. This service cost an extra $2.49 per shirt
  • Outside Shirt Label: If the manufacturer’s label cannot be removed from the shirt you’re customizing; Printful gives you the option of printing your brand on the outside of the shirt. That makes your brand even more visible, as it will be noticed by people whenever and wherever the garment is worn. This service also cost an extra $2.49 per shirt
  • Return Address: Printful will also put your company name in the return packet, but the return address listed will be Printful’s. That way, you maintain your brand all the way; if the customer chooses to return the order, it will be appear as if the return package will be received by your company, while it is actually Printful that’ll receive it.
  • Pack-Ins: You may choose to personalize the order that will be drop shopped for you by adding branded pack-ins (such as flyers, business cards or stickers). For this service, you’ll have to mail Printful the pack-ins, and they’ll add them to every order they fulfill for you. Pack-ins will cost you $0.75 per order and $0.85 per day for storage (bill once a month).

An important thing to consider when choosing a POD fulfillment service is the range of products in their product catalog. Simply put, this determines the range of products you can sell in your store. That is, if you want to sell fancy shoes in your store, you’ll want to make sure that shoes are offered for customizing in the product catalog of the PD fulfillment service.

That said, you’ll find that Printful is somewhat wanting in the range of products offered. For example, you cannot use the service to fulfill orders of fancy shoes or fancy jewelry.

However, one good thing about POD orders is that you can build your store around one product of the fulfillment services. For example, I can build a store offering only fancy hats; and getting different unique caps will simply be a matter of using different custom artworks or inspirational quotes to customize a particular plain Snapback.

Product Quality

When it comes to POD products, quality checks should include both quality of print, and the quality of the product printed on. It won’t make sense that the prints come out dull, or that the prints wash off after using the product briefly. It also does will not make sense that the print is of good quality but on materials that will sag or lose form only after a few wears.

For print quality, it should be said that Printful has invested over $17 million in printing equipments because of a commitment to produce excellent prints. We agree that the commitment or the heavy investments do not necessarily translate to actually producing quality prints, but that appears to be the case with Printful. You’ll find that Printful has very good reviews in the various e-commerce platforms as well as in many independent review platforms. Printful stands out as one POD company that does its stuff really well, and produces top quality printing. You’ll also find that the products in Printful are quality items from some good brands.

However, the quality of printing is heavily influenced by the quality of the image you upload, as well as the material on which the print will be done. Thus, while customizing your item, you might find that you have to work on your image for it to meet printable quality.

While it’s safe to say that the Printful ticks the box in terms of quality of customized items, you can order a sample product, so that you’ll see firsthand the quality of the final product. That way, you can be assured of the quality of all items that you publish to your store. What is more, you do not need to fret about costs. Printful gives a 20% discount for all sample products plus free shipping to select locations. (Sample orders fulfilled in the American fulfillment centers ships free to Canada, the US, and US territories; while sample orders fulfilled in the European fulfillment center ships free to all locations in Europe).

The one problem is that persons not resident in Europe, Canada or the US (and US territories) will have to pay for shipping of sample orders. Another bump on this road is that the sample orders are limited to one per month. Thus, you will be unable to test out products on a regular basis.

Pricing

Service Price

If you’ll be using a fulfillment platform to fulfill orders placed in your store, you’ll want to make sure that the cost of using the service is not too high. Where service costs are involved, free apps are very appealing.

Fortunately, Printful is one such free app. There are no subscription fees or any other hidden charges. Amongst POD drop shippers, there are many apps that charge monthly subscription fees. One problem with such subscription-based apps is that, if you do not make sales (especially in the early days of your store), you’ll find yourself “paying rent” to the fulfillment company despite them having not fulfilled any order.

There are other fulfillment apps which charge service fees, but offer a free plan that can be used free of charge. The one problem is that such free plans usually come with restrictions (such as number of items that you can list in your shop, and number of orders that can be fulfilled in a month). Where your shop excels, you’ll find it stifled by those restrictions; and you’ll have to subscribe to the paid plans, where every higher priced plan have more features.

That said, being a totally free app, you can install Printful and use the full range of its features free of charge. Printful will only make money when you make a sale (a customer places and pays for an order in your store, and you pay Printful their asking price for the product).

Product Pricing

Product pricing is an important consideration when choosing to use a POD company. When buying for yourself, you’ll not want to pay what you perceive as unreasonable. When using the company to fulfill POD orders in your store, there’s even more reason to want reasonable product prices; you’ll want enough room to set your selling price and still make significant profit.

In this regard, Printful does not come out as one of the cheapest POD fulfillment services; instead they’ll fall in the top half of the pile.

For example, at the time of writing this review; in the men category: Shirts (T-Shirts, Tank Tops, etc) ranged from $8.95 to $33.95; Hoodies and Sweatshirts ranged from $17.75 to $39.95; Jackets were priced between $33.45 and $35.50; and Shorts went for $28.03. In the women category, Shirts (T-shirts, Polo Shirt, Racer back Tank Top, Bodysuit etc) ranged from $8.95 to $33.95, Hoodies and Sweatshirts ranged from $17.75 to $34.95, Leggings and Short ranged from $17.50 to $34.95, Dresses ranged from $32.95 to $35.95, Swimwear ranged from $15.95 to $29.95, Sports Bra went for $28.95, and Jackets went for $35.50.

Profit Potential

If you’ll be using Printful to fulfill orders placed in your store, when considering product pricing, you’ll have an eye on the amount of profit you can make.

As documented in the last section, product pricing in Printful might not be the best; however you can still use Printful to turn a decent profit. For example, in the T-shirts section, you’ll find items of different styles and from different brands costing between $8.95 and $33.95. Most times, the price of these items is more of branding than quality. Thus, instead of drawing items from the top half of the price range, you can pick good quality shirts from the lower half of the price range, customize these and publish them to your store. If you were to pick a $12.95 T-Shirt, you can set your selling price at $19.95 (without shipping), and you’ll be making a profit of $7 per unit sold.

That said, in the product sections of Printful, though some particular items may be priced high, you’ll find some lower-priced version of the particular product, which will give you enough room to set a selling price that is reasonable, and most importantly, that’ll earn you a reasonable profit.

Where costs are involved, zero costs win it all the time. Thus, free shipping will be very appealing. Unfortunately, Printful does not offer free shipping. This should not be a turn off, as there’s really any POD service that offers free shipping. The best you’ll find is shipping cost being included in the cost of items. However, Printful does not do this either; their product prices are exclusive of shipping cost, and you’ll have to pay for shipping. Printful offers both flat rates and live rates.

If you choose the live rate, your shipping cost will be calculated based on certain factors such as where the order will be fulfilled, where it’s shipping to, and the selected shipping method. For those who like choice, it’s a good thing to find that Printful offers both flat rates and live rates. With flat rates, you may find yourself disadvantaged (cost-wise) if where your order is shipping to is not too far from the fulfillment center, or advantaged if your order is shipping to a distant location. But having live rates available, you can choose the most cost effective option for your order.

Shipping Times

No one will want to wait too long after placing an order to receive the package. Thus, whether you’ll be using the POD Company to fulfill your individual order, or to fulfill orders placed by customers in your store, you’ll want a fulfillment service that will deliver as quickly as possible.

Two times affect delivery – production time, and shipping time. For the former, after an order is received by the POD company, it goes into production to print your custom design on the product; and for the latter, after production of the custom item, it is dispatched to the carrier, and moved from the fulfillment center of the POD company to where the buyer will receive delivery of it. You’ll want both production time and shipping time to be quick.

Printful does relatively fine on both counts. For production, the company takes about 2 – 7 business days to produce apparel products (t-shirts, dresses, shorts, etc.) and 2 – 5 business days for non-apparel products (posters, mugs, etc.). If you’ve checked reviews of POD companies, you’ll find that this is basically about how much time other POD services take to produce similar products.

Shipping times in Printful (that is, how long it’ll take to move items from their fulfillment center to the shipping address) depends on whether flat rates or live rate is being used. Where “live rates” is chosen, there are three shipping options with delivery times as follows:

  • Shipping to the US: Overnight (1 business day), Express (1 – 3 business days), Standard (3 – 5 business days), Economy (5 – 8 business days)
  • Shipping to international locations: Express, (1 – 3 business days), Standard (3 – 5 business days), Economy (5 – 10 business days), and No rush (10 – 20 business days)

Where flat rate is chose, there’s no choice of delivery option, but it will appear that Standard Shipping is used because most of such deliveries is done in 5 business days.

If you’ve seen reviews of other POD fulfillment services, you’ll find that the shipping times of Printful are some of the best out there. This is because Printful is able to be closer to customers no matter where the customers may be resident. They achieve this by operating four different fulfillment centers “located on both sides of the big pond” – North Carolina, California, Mexico and Latvia.

Returns

It will be ignorant to discuss online purchases without touching on returns. This is because there are many reasons why customers will want to return an item an item purchased online to its retailer. These reasons include: receiving delivery of a faulty/ poorly made/ wrong item, receiving an item that does not fit (for sized products such as clothing), or simply changing your mind about the order (buyer’s remorse). Whatever, the case for the returns, rather than being stuck with an unwanted item, customers will want retailers that’ll allow them to return unwanted item and get a replacement or a refund. Thus, when considering POD fulfillment services, their return policy is an important consideration.

Thankfully, Printful accept returns. However, since Printful is a fulfiller of customized items, you’ll expect that their return policy will be stricter than companies that fulfill regular (non-POD) orders. First, by default, the return address on all orders is set to the Printful facility. You can actually opt to have your address as the return address, but if you do, you’ll be liable for all return shipment you receive.

Eligible Returns

Printful will only be responsible for returns of items when the error necessitating the return is their fault. This will include items that are misprinted, damaged, or defective. In that case, all expense will be handled by Printful.

Printful strongly advices that you should advice your customers to contact you before returning any item using the return address. This is because they do not accept any item returned to them because of buyer’s remorse or even size dispute. If your customer returns an item because the size ordered does not fit, it will be handled at your expense. That is, Printful will ship the returned item to you (free of charge), and you’ll have to place a new order (with the updated size) for the customer. Note that you’ll have to foot all bills (both cost of the new item and cost of shipping it to the customer).

That said, it’s best to advise your customers to carefully select sizes, and that returns for sizing disputes will not be accepted. Except of course, you’ll be ready to grant such returns and foot the bills. This is one area where Printful needs to stand up; this is because you’ll find POD fulfillment services that grant sizing satisfaction Guarantees (a one-time product exchanges when a wrong size is ordered).

Where items are returned to Printful by the courier because of insufficient or incorrect shipping address, all reshipment cost will be borne by you (the seller) after an updated address have been provided by you. Where you are not ready to bear such reshipment cost, you should make it clear in your store that “where the courier returns orders due to insufficient or incorrect shipping address, the customers will be responsible for the cost of reshipping the orders to the updated address”.

Return Window

Eligible returned items are not accepted if the claims are not submitted within an allowed time period. Thus, you’ll want an extended window for this. Thankfully, Printful’s window is wide. All claims for misprinted, damaged or defective items must be submitted within four weeks after receipt of the product.  If the package is lost in transit, claims should be submitted not more than four weeks after the estimated delivery date.

Note that when the courier returns orders to Printful because of incorrect or insufficient address, if the items are not claimed after four weeks of reaching their facility, the items are donated to charity. Thus, you should sound it in your store that your customers should not wait for more than four weeks after the estimated delivery date to report a non-delivery. However, you’ll know all non-deliveries because Printful will send you an automated email notification when they receive a returned shipment.

Customer Support Service

You want a fulfillment service that has answers to any questions that you may have, as well as one that’ll help you to solve the problems that your customers will have with their orders.

For the email service, you can contact Printful using the contact form that can be found in the website, or by sending them an e-mail directly from your e-mail account using the address support@printful.com. They answer all email submissions within hours. However, if you’ll rather have instant feedback, you may use the live chat feature or the telephone service.

At the time of writing this review, the live chat was not available. The phone service was very available, and the number to call is +1 (818) 351-7181. However, the phone service is not available 24/ 7; it is active only between 9:00Am – 5:30PM EST (Monday – Fridays). We like that world-facing services have 24/7 customer support service so that there’ll be no problem of the service being active only in the downtime of some customers. That said, when using Printful, you’ll have to know how to handle your customers who contact you in the weekend or during the downtime of Printful’s customer support service.

Summary

Printful comes out as one of the best POD suppliers in the market which you can use to create and sell custom items in your online store. Printful is totally free, and integrates well with a host of e-commerce platforms. True, you’ll find Printful short of products (such as shoes, jewelry); but if you decide to build your store around any of the products in their catalog, you’ll find that Printful does a good job. They produce top quality prints; they have relatively fast turnaround times with fast production times and shipment times; and they have custom branding options. They do not offer the best product pricing, and their return policy is stricter than some other POD suppliers, but the reasons for using Printful far outweigh any that may make you ruminate.

Having unique items for sale in your store is a wonderful prospect. But the big question is whether Pillow Profits will actually produce the customized item and drop ship the order for you when a customer places an order in your store. Do they provide other services that you’ll expect of an ideal POD drop shipper (such as having a range of products in their catalog, providing a range of free designs, easy integration with your shop, fast production and delivery times, low product pricing, etc)? In the first place, is Pillow Profits genuine?

First you should know that Pillow Profits only integrates with Shopify, so if you want to use Pillow Profits, you have to create a Shopify shop first. For those who’ll rather use another e-commerce platform it will be a disadvantage that Pillow Profits only works with Shopify; but if you have no qualms about using Shopify, then Pillow Profits is also there for you to avail yourself of.

You may install the Pillow Profits app from the Shopify App store or directly from the Pillow Profits website. From your Shopify Admin dashboard, navigate to Apps in the left sidebar; clicking it will open the Shopify App store, search for Pillow Profits Fulfillment and click “Get”. When the “you are about to Install Pillow Profits Fulfillment” page opens, click the “Install app” button in the right bottom corner. After installation, Pillow Profits will appear in the apps area of your Shopify dashboard.

Installing the app from the Pillow Profits website is also easy; you’ll only have to enter your Shopify store URL, and then you can Get and install the app. Note that, whether installing the Pillow Profits app from the Shopify App store or from the Pillow Profits website, in the process you’ll have to set your payment method which will be used for your billing.

Order Cancellation

Sometimes customers change their mind about an order and will want to cancel it or make modifications to it.

After an order is received by the Pillow Profit App, it is put in the “Pending” status for up to 24 hours. This is to allow for you to cancel the order or place it on hold. Thus, an order can be cancelled within 24 hours after it is received by Pillow Profits. It is also when an order is Pending or “On Hold” that it can be modified. If the order passes into “In-Production”, no order modification is allowed.

You must be an Entrepreneur to be looking at reviews of Print on Demand drop shipping apps; and despite all the Entrepreneurial chivalrous talks of being driven by passion, there is always an eye on profit. Thus, an important consideration when planning to use Pillow Profits to fulfill your POD drop shipping orders is the profit potential.

Pillow Profits suggests a retail price for every product in their catalog, but as stated in the above section, you fix the selling prices of every Pillow Profit item you publish to your Shopify store. With the product costing $39.99 and having an MSRP of $59.99 + $6.95 shipping (=$66.94), it means the profit unit sold will be $26.95.

The above means that Pillow Profits has huge profit potentials. Also, the products’ MSRP are not unrealistic prices that the company simply conjures up to make their products appealing to potential sellers. They are fair prices. You’ll know this by simply looking at prices of similar products in the regular (non POD) stores. You’ll find that these prices (Pillow Profits’ MSRPs) for fancy/ customized products are almost same or just a bit higher than prices for regular products in many regular (non POD) online stores.

For example, in many traditional (non POD) retail stores, if you find regular Tank Tops for about $20, you’ll call it a good deal; talk more of getting fancy Tank Tops with customized designs for just $5.95 more. Also, you’ll call it a good deal to get regular Sneakers for about $50 or regular Faux Fur Leather Boots for about $50 – $60. Thus, getting fancy versions of these footwear for just about $10 more will be more than welcomed.

In fact, to show that the MSRPs of Pillow Profits products are reasonable and that the significant profit potential it promises is very realistic; there is a report of someone who successfully used Pillow Profits to fulfill fancy Sneakers orders while selling at $74.99, which was some $15.05 higher than the MSRP.

Shipping

When a customer strolls into any online store and orders an item, the store will have to process the order and ship the item to the address indicated by the customer before the customer will take possession of the items. Thus, shipping is an integral part of all online transactions; and one factor that customers look at when considering online stores. Some of the shipping considerations of customers are: shipping destination (what locations does the store ship to?), shipping times (how long, from the date of order placement, will it take before the package is delivered?), and shipping cost (how much will it take the store to move the package from their fulfillment center to where the package will be received?).

Thus, you’ll want a fulfillment company that ships to as many locations as possible. Pillow Profits ticks the box in this regards, because they ship to worldwide locations.

Shipping Times

Customers do not like waiting forever to get their orders. As a result you’ll want fulfillment companies that get items to customers in record time. In one of the pages in their website, Pillow Profits lists the benefits they offer, and the first on the list is “fast production times”. They state that they “boast the absolute fastest turn-around times in the industry”, explaining that “each item is hand crafted and shipped out quickly”.

It should be said that when it comes to using Print on Demand fulfillment companies, the total time that a customer waits after placing an order in your shop is made up of: (i) item’s production and processing time (ii) the shipping time. Pillow Profits promises fast times in both.

For the former (item’s production and processing times), Pillow Profits live up to their promise. For many of the non-footwear products in their catalog, the production time is 2 – 4 days. These include: Pillow Covers, Cloth Tote Bags, and Crew Socks. The production time for almost all footwear is 5 – 7 days; while Leather Tote Bags, Handbags and other products have production times of 4 – 6 days.

For the latter (package shipping time), Pillow Profits provides two shipping options – Standard Shipping and Express Shipping. However, unlike the regular online stores, a customer cannot simply select a shipping option when ordering a Pillow Profits item in your store. It is you the seller/ store owner that determine the shipping option that’ll apply to an item; and you do that when building the customized item. At the point of choosing a product from the Pillow Profits catalog to customize for your store, if you simply click “Add products”, Standard shipping will apply to the customized products you’ll publish to your Shopify store; but if you click “Add Express-line Products”, Express shipping will apply to the customized products published to your store.

Tracking information is also made available so your customer will know where their package is as it moves from the fulfillment center of Pillow Profits to where they’ll receive delivery of it. Order tracking numbers are usually generated and sent to your customers at least 3 days after the production of the customized item.

Standard products shipping may take up to 25 business days (5 weeks). This is relatively long; and you’ll agree that many customers will get itchy waiting for 5 weeks for their package to get delivered. One of the reasons for the long waiting time is that though Pillow Profits is an American Company, their fulfillment center is based in East Asia, so most of the products are printed and shipped from Eastern Asia. Thankfully, the Express – Line products shipping takes 4 – 7 business days. Thus, customers would get their Express-line package 2 – 3 weeks earlier than the standard products. As a result, if you’ll not want to face too many customers’ enquiries about why their order is taking too long, you’ll want to  create and sell only Express-Line products in your store.

However, while Standard products are shipped to every worldwide location that is served by Pillow Profits, Express-Line products can be shipped to only 67 countries. Though Express delivery may be available to particular countries, it may not be available for some remote locations within the country. For example, though Express – Line Products ship to Andorra, they don’t ship to certain locations in the country such as Andorra La Vella, El Serrat, Encamp, Les Escaldes, Saint Julia De Loria, and Solden.

There are a few countries that take Pillow Profits more than 50 days to deliver “due to limited and strict routes”. These countries include: Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Bulgaria, Chile, and Romania.  While the countries that Pillow Profits cannot fulfill an order include: Guatemala, Bolivia, Montenegro, North Korea, Kuwait, Georgia, Syria, Jordan, Ecuador, Morocco, and Peru.

Shipping Cost

The total spend on an item is the addition of its purchase cost and its shipping cost; so when shipping costs are too high, an item that is acceptably priced might become too expensive to acquire. So customers like shipping costs that are as low as possible. So when choosing a drop shipping supplier, you’ll want to look at the shipping cost they offer.

Pillow Profits also aces it in this regard. This is because, they offer free shipping. Item shipping costs are included in the price of the items in their product catalog. Pillow Profits boasts about this fact, saying that they “are the only fulfillment service that will print and ship your products at rock-bottom pricing anywhere in the world with no additional cost”.

Since you’ll expect express delivery to be more expensive than standard delivery; and since the shipping costs are built into the product price, it means that the Express Line Products cost more than the standard products. The price difference is about $8.00. Thus, where the product cost of Standard sneakers is $32.00, the cost of Express-Line sneakers is $40.00.

Returns

Another important consideration is the return policy of the platform. This is because, online transaction has seen a revolution whereby almost every shop allows customers to return items in their order that they are not totally satisfied with. You must consider that not all your customers will be totally pleased with their orders. Since you are only drop shipping and will not touch the product in anyway, you’ll want a drop shipper with a friendly return policy.

In this regard, it should be noted that the items in question are customized products that only got produced after the customer placed the order. Thus, returns in the POD (Print on Demand) business are not as straight forward as it is in the regular (non POD) retailing business. This means that whether returns are accepted or not will depend on the reason for choosing to return the item.

There are many reasons why a customer will want to return an order to the retailer. One is if a damaged, flawed or incorrect order is delivered. In this case, Pillow Profits will accept the returns and send a replacement or issue a refund (as desired by the customer). However, you (the seller) will first have to pre-qualify the customer by asking for pictures for proof that the received item was actually damaged, flawed or incorrect. It should be said that in the event that the customer request a refund and not a replacement, Pillow Profits will only issue refunds as store credits, and not monetary refund. In our experience customers prefer monetary refunds and not store credits because the store credits ties the customer to using the funds for purchase from the store.

However, if the reason for the returns is that customer just do not like the item (and this is very possible, as an item after being received might lose some of the wow factor it had when you were viewing its product pages), Pillow Profits will not accept returns of the item.

One of the biggest reasons for returns is sizing issues; that is, the product ordered is a wrong fit that is either too big or too small. If this is the case and the item is footwear, Pillow Profits offers a 100% Sizing Satisfaction Guarantee. That is, they will process a one-time free exchange for the customer. It should be noted that Pillow Profits does not issue refunds for shoe sizing disputes, but only an exchange. That the exchange is a one-time only exchange means that if the replacement shoe is produced and sent to the customer, Pillow Profits will not entertain further complain of it [the replacement shoe] also being a wrong fit. One good part of the “100% Sizing Satisfaction Guarantee” is that Pillow Profits will not require the customer to send the original order for them to send the replacement shoe. If you are harrowed by your customer that the replacement sent also does not fit, Pillow Profits will only act in getting another replacement to the customer if you (the seller) are willing to bear all further costs.

However, it should be said that Pillow Profits provides sizing charts on the product description pages which should help reduce sizing issues. Also, if the new size requested by the customer differ by more than two sizes from the original size ordered; Pillow Profits will consider it that the customer made an error when ordering the original item and will not accept the sizing complain and will not send a replacement.

Customer Support

“Whatever will go wrong will go wrong” is one statement that cannot be more true. No matter how well an e-commerce platform is run, in the very least, there’ll be questions about the platform or its services. Since you won’t want to be left hanging when you have questions, you’ll want an e-commerce platform that’ll readily answer any questions that you have.

It should also be said that, typical of POD drop shipping suppliers, Pillow Profits handle only producing the custom item and shipping it to the customer; all the customer service will be handled by you (the seller). Since it’s inevitable that some of your customers will have issues with their orders and will inundate you with queries, you’ll want a service that will help you with effective resolution of such issues so that you’ll maintain happy customers. 

Just like in most platforms, the first stop to getting answers to questions is an FAQ page in the Pillow Profits website. You’ll find the FAQ very extensive and the answers provided very detailed. If you have to contact the support service of the company, Pillow Profits provide an email service. You can access this service by using the contact widget in the bottom right-hand corner of their website or the Pillow Profits Fulfillment App. Alternatively you may send a mail directly from your email account using the address support@pillowsprofits.com. Whatever method you use, you’ll receive a response in your email inbox, typically about 6 – 12 hours after the support submission.

While their response time is relatively good, instant feedback is better than even the smallest response time. Thus, it’s a little disappointing that Pillow Profits does not support instant feedback contact options such as live chat or telephone.

It should be said here that you may find in some reviews that Pillow Profits customer service have a reputation for being mean. This stems from cases where Pillow Profits will not bend their policy in order to help customers of their users. For example, one of their policies clearly states that “Pillow Profits will not refund nor assume liability for orders that are lost due to incorrect Shipping Address”. Where your customer has issues with his/ her order resulting from a wrong shipping address; you’ll find that Pillow Profits position will be one of disinterest that can easily come out as mean.

Summary

Pillow Profits is easily one of the best Shopify apps in the market. Even if you narrow down to the POD (Print on Demand) niche, Pillow Profits still remains one of the best apps out there; and if you narrow down even further to the main product focus of Pillow Profits (which is footwear), then you’ll be hard pressed to find a better Shopify app.

The above-listed product categories and items show that Belk is a complete consumer product store. In the apparel store, there are products for everyone in the family – men, women, and kids; and there are also almost every home and outdoor consumer products.

Inventory Size

Apart from having a variety of products, you’ll want the ideal store to have a large number of items available in each product section. For example, you’ll not want to find only two or three items in the women skirts section if you need to buy a shirt. With a large pool to choose from when purchasing any item, you’re more likely to find something that’ll match your preference and budget.

In this regards, Belk does very well. They hold a sizeable inventory of each product type. For example, at the time of writing this review, in the women’s clothing category, there were 1,997 items in dresses section, and 237 items in the women skirts section; in the men clothing category, there were 565 items in the Pants section, and 184 items in the Suit section. The accessories category was also well stocked; women’s boot and flats numbered over 1,200 and 910 respectively, while men’s shoes were over 1,720.

The other product categories are also well stocked. In the home category, the furniture section had over 1,399 items, the electronics section had over 240 items; and in the Bed and Bath category, there were over 978 bedding basics.

That said, with hundreds of items in each product section, you’ll not be short of choices when shopping in Belk. Belk is able to offer their numbers because they draw products from a host of brands (over 1,420), which includes some exclusives such as Biltmore, Crown and Ivy, Home accents, Kim Rogers, Lightning Bug, Nursery Rhymes, True Craft, Wonderly, and Zelos.

Prices, Promotions, and Related Policies

Prices

The ideal online store should offer reasonable prices, because no matter how gorgeous a particular piece is, no buyer will be willing to pay more than is reasonable for it. Determining the reasonableness of prices is best done by comparing prices in a store to the prices the competition.

When this is done, the prices of Belk come out as fair. That is, Belk does not come out as offering the most competitive prices, but the store does not come out as being expensive either. For example, at the time of writing this review, full prices of women dresses ranged between $48 and $227 (with hundreds of them below $100). Also, full prices of women skirts starts from $44, with almost every item in the section coming in under $100. It was the same in the men’s apparel category; hundreds of men’s pants were available for $60 – $100, while suits were priced at $99.99 – $695. Given that in stores considered expensive, you’ll be hard pressed to find items selling for less than three figures, it’s safe to say that you’ll not break the bank to shop in Belk.

Promotions

Promotions are cost saving offers, since promotions allow customers to get products for less than their full prices. Thus, customers are always on the lookout for stores that run a lot of promotional offers.

Belk comes out strong in this area. There are a lot of costs saving offers provided by the store. On the landing page of the Belk website we were greeted with lot of price slashing offers such as “over 200 Doorbusters” items with up to 75% off, “Buy one, get 2 free” on select Pants, and more. There was an offer to get 20% off regular and sales purchases with the Belk Rewards Credit Card, as well as an offer to get 15% off with Belk shopping pass. In addition to these, there were dozens of other coupons.

If you want promotions, Belk offers them in quantum. In the product listing, you’ll find that over 80% item listed have coupons that can be applied to knock down its price. Most of these coupons take up to 80% off full prices of items, leaving the items at tantalizing prices. For example, you’ll find a lot of men and women apparel (Pants, Skirts, and Dresses) knocked down to $12.49 – $26.49, even men suits are knocked down to $74.99 – $84.99, and tons of shoes are knocked down to well below $50. If you plan to score good deals while shopping consumer products, signing up for Belk is not a bad idea.

Payment Method

The ideal store should support a wide range of payment options so that you can easily find a convenient means to pay for your orders. In this regards, Belk does very well, as they support different payment methods. You can pay for your Belk orders with: Belk Rewards Credit Card, Visa, Mastercard, Masterpass, American Express, Discover, Amex Cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Pre-paid gift cards such as Simon’s

Though there is no support for the web wallets, checks, crypto currencies or for options such as COD (Cash on Delivery) payments, Belk still support more payment options than you’ll find in many other consumer products stores. The support for PayPal is particularly laudable because this is a preferred means of payment for many customers, but is not one often supported by consumer products stores.

Shipping

When looking at online stores shipping is important because any item you order will have to be moved from the fulfillment center of the store to where you’ll receive delivery of the item. The important shipping considerations are shipping destinations, shipping times, and shipping costs.

Shipping Destinations

This is the different places that the online store ships merchandise to. This should be one of the first considerations when checking online stores because if the store does not ship to your territory it will be difficult to receive your order. In this regard, you’ll want a store to ship merchandise to many locations across the world, so that where you are resident is more likely to be covered.

In terms of shipping destinations, Belk comes out as a US facing store. The store ships orders to only the contiguous US States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Military APO/ FPO addresses. At the time of writing, they do not ship orders internationally. Thus, if you are resident outside the US, you’ll have to look at another store for your related purchases.

Shipping Times

Because after placing your order you won’t want to wait for too long before receiving its delivery, you’ll want a store that offers fast delivery.

Belk offers a couple of shipping options, and how long you’ll have to wait to get your orders depends on the delivery option chosen. The different shipping options are standard delivery, Premium 2 – day delivery, and Express Overnight delivery. The Standard delivery takes 4 – 7 days to deliver orders to the 48 contiguous US states. How long the other delivery options take is evident from their names, the Premium 2- day option delivers orders in 2 business days, while the Overnight option delivers orders the very next business day after order placement. However, for the express delivery, you’ll have to place the order before 1pm (EST).

Only standard delivery is available for orders shipping to Alaska and Hawaii, and it takes 7 – 10 business days. If shipping to military addresses, it will even take more time.

Belk also have an in-store pick up service where you can place orders online and pick it up from select stores tagged “Buy Online, Pick Up in Store”. This is one of the fastest ways to get your Belk online purchases because the orders placed this way are generally ready for pick up in the store within four hours (but orders placed after 4:00pm of any day will be available the next business day). However, the “Buy Online, Pick Up in Store” service does not apply to all items listed in Belk. Items available for in-store pick up will be clearly marked as such in the website in the product detail page, as well as the available pick up locations. The stores will hold the merchandise for up to 10 days before returning them to stock; and you’ll get an email reminder 24 hours before the items are returned to inventory.

Shipping Cost

Research has shown that many buyers abandon their shopping cart at checkout after the shipping costs have been added. This reveals that when shipping costs are too high, the cost of obtaining an item may be perceived as unacceptable, even if the items themselves were perceived as acceptably priced. Thus, you’ll want shipping costs to be as low as possible.

In this regards, free shipping wins it all the time because it represents the lowest possible shipping cost. Thankfully, Belk does offer free shipping. However, like most online retailing stores, it comes with minimum order requirement, which is $99+. That is, if your order is $99 or greater, you’ll get free standard shipping; but if the order is less than $99, you’ll have to pay a standard shipping rate of $9.50. Given that the standard shipping is the slowest delivery option, if you want expedited delivery, you’ll have to dip more into your pockets. The Premium 2-day delivery cost $24.95 for all orders, while the Express overnight delivery cost $29.95 for all orders. Also, if you are buying a gift card; standard shipping is free, while the Premium 2-day delivery and the Express overnight delivery are the same rates, that is $24.95 and $29.95 respectively.

Looking at the shipping costs of Belk; it’s always good to find online retailing stores that offer free shipping.  However, you’ll not want to spend too much just to qualify for free shipping; thus, the qualifying amount merits considering. Belk’s $99+ requirement to qualify for free shipping is not the highest you’ll find in the business, but it is still is relatively high, because there are lots of US based US facing fashion stores with free shipping qualifying amounts of $50 or $75.

However, Belk occasionally run shipping promotions. For example, at the time of writing this review a shipping promotion that was running made free shipping available for orders over $49. That said, if you’ll rather not spend up to any particular amount to get free shipping, you can use the “Buy Online, Pick Up in Store” service where available. No matter the order amount, it is free to ship your package to the designated store where you’ll pick it up.

Also, it’s also a good thing that where free shipping is not applicable (orders less than $99 or orders for expedited shipping) Belk charges flat shipping rates. With flat rates, the amount you’ll pay for shipping remains the same even as your order size or weight increases. However, it should be said that the shipping rates of Belk are a bit high relatively. There are definitely stores that offer less than $9.50 or $29.95 for standard shipping and overnight shipping respectively.

Returns

When checking online stores that you plan to buy from, it is important to check that the store has a friendly return policy. This is because there are many reasons why you may not be totally satisfied with an ordered item. This could range from ordering a wrong fit, to getting a damaged/ wrong item, to simply changing your mind about the order. Whatever the reason, if you’re not totally satisfied with the delivered item, you’ll rather return it to the store (and get a replacement or get refunded) than be stuck with it. Fortunately, Belk does allow returns of unwanted items. What follows is a discussion of their return policy.

Return Process

You want the return process to be easy so that you won’t be put off from returning an item to the store because of a cumbersome process.

Returning items to Belk is fairly easy. They are two ways to return Belk orders – return in store, and return by mail. Return in store is simply walking into a Belk retail store closest to you with the item you wish to return. In-store returns apply to all items purchased in a Belk store, but not for all items purchased online. The online purchases which cannot be returned in-store include: area rug (with one side 5 ft or larger); wall art, mirrors, clocks or picture frames (30 inches or larger); furniture; food or candy; baby gear; Christmas tree (10 ft or larger or out of original box); mattresses; and laps & lighting. Given that in-store return is convenient, it’s also a good part of Belk’s return policy that a host of Belk’s online purchases can be returned in store. This is unlike the restrictive policy of many online stores where only in-store purchases can be returned in-store and all online purchases must be returned by mail.

The return of items to Belk by mail is also fairly straight forward. All you’ll do is: indicate the reason for the return on the packing slip (beside the product description), package the item appropriately including the packing slip and a copy of the merchandise receipt, and send the package to Belk’s fulfillment center (8051 Eastgate Blvd, Mt Juliet, TN 37122). However, the simplest process would have been the provision of return labels. Return labels are usually pre-addressed which makes them very convenient to use; they are also pre-paid which means that at the point of mailing the return package you’ll not have to bring out money. Unfortunately, Belk does not provide return labels, so you’ll have to write the return address on the return package, and you’ll have to use your money at the point of mailing the return package.

Return Window

Online stores gives a return window – a time period within which any unwanted item must be returned to the store for it to be accepted and a refund issued. Because you’ll not get a refund if the items are sent in late, you’ll want an extended return window so that you’ll not have to race against the calendar when returning items to Belk.

In this regard, Belk outperforms almost every other retail store in the business. The store allows a returns window of 180 days; which means that you can return an unwanted item to Belk anytime within 180 days from the day of purchase. Even if the “day of purchase” here is the day that the order is placed, Belk’s return window is still wider than the “30 days from date of receipt of item” that most of the other retailing stores offer. The only exception to this policy is fine jewelry, mattress and rug. The return window of these items is 90 days from the day of purchase, which is still wider than the oft seen 30 days. That said you won’t be under time pressure when returning a Belk item to the store, as they offer a very generous return window.

For all returns getting to Belk within the allowed time, the company will refund the full purchase price of the merchandise. It should also be said that if for some reasons your return do not get to Belk within the allowed time, the store will still issue a refund, but the value will not be the purchase price of the item returned, but the lowest sale price (of the item) offered in the last 30 days. Also the refund will not be as cash, but as store credits to Belk Rewards Credit Card or a Belk Gift Card. This is a very good part of the policy because in most of the other online stores, returned item reaching the store after the return window closes are rejected.

Cost of Return

If you have to return an item to a store, you don’t want to be put off by the cost of making the returns. Thus, the ideal online store should have cost of return that are as low as possible.

In this regard, while returning items to Belk, the customers bear all shipping costs. The only exception is where the return is for a damaged or wrong item. Where costs are involved, zero costs win it all the time; thus, we’ll like to see online stores that offer free returns (that is, absorbs return shipping cost and makes the costs zero for the customers). Thus, it’s disappointing that Belk does not offer free returns by pushing return shipping cost to the customer. It also does not help that return labels are not provided; this is because where return labels are provided return shipping costs are usually discounted. Thus, you’ll find that returning items to Belk will be relatively expensive. However, it is good to see that unlike some other stores, Belk does not charge restocking fees.

Refund Policy

After returning an item to a store, you won’t want to wait forever before receiving your refund. In this regards, Belk does relatively well. It takes the store 15 business days of receiving the returned item to issue the refund. If you’ve seen reviews of other online stores, you’ll find that there are many stores that take as many as one month to issue refunds.

Also, it’s a good thing that Belk issue refunds via the original payment method. Thus, you’ll have your funds in your account, and may choose to go to another store for your purchase. They online issue refund as store credits if the returned items is received later than the 180 days allowed for returns, or if the return package is received without the merchandise receipt or packing slip. This is better than some stores that exclusively offer store credits for all returns, which will restrict the customer to buying from the particular store.

Ordering Experience

Part of the seamless customer experience that online stores promise is an easy buying process. This starts from the ordering process. Belk offers a seamless ordering experience. Because the website is intuitive, navigating in it is a breeze; you’ll be able to search through product listings, select an item into cart, and complete checkout without any hassle.  Also, after placing an order, you may make changes to it for up to 15 minutes from the time of submitting the order. This is a good one because in most online stores, you cannot make changes to an order after placement; so you’ll have to wait to receive the order and start the process of returning it.

After placing your order, you’ll receive an order confirmation email with complete details of the order as well as the order number which you can use to track the order. After the package has been picked up by the carrier for shipment, you’ll receive a shipping confirmation email. This mail will contain a tracking number which you can then use to track the package through shipping carrier’s website.

Customer Support Service

Some customers will have questions about a store or its offerings, while others will have issues with their orders. Thus, the ideal store will provide for answering customers’ questions and handling customers’ complains.

Belk provides self-help via FAQ articles. It is good that a lot of contact channels are supported, so customers will have their pick when they need help. One small dent is that the Belk’s customer support service is not available 24/ 7. However, since the department store is US facing, there will be no problem of the support service being active only in the downtime of customers at the other part of the world.

Belk may have been founded over a century ago, but the company lives up to its “Modern. Southern. Style” tagline. Belk is a go-to destination for modern and stylish fashion pieces for the entire family, as well as Southern style home collections. There is a sizeable inventory of a wide variety of consumer products, such that you’re guaranteed to find something that matches your taste and budget. Prices in the store are such that you won’t break the bank, and they offer a host of cost saving promos to ensure that you can score amazing deals in the store.

Belk ships to only the US. Shipping is relatively fast, while returns are easy with a very generous return window of 180 days from the date of purchase. The only dent on the return policy is that Return Labels are not provided and the costs of returns are borne by customer.

The shipping time and cost vary depending on which of the 18 locations the package is travelling and the shipping option selected.

For UK orders, there are three delivery options – Standard Home delivery, Express Home Delivery, and Standard Pick-Up location. The Standard Pick-Up location will deliver the package to a selected location where you’ll go for the pickup. The delivery takes 2 – 3 days; and it cost £3.00, but is free for all orders over £40.00. The Standard Home delivery will get the package to your door in 2 – 3 working days. It cost £6.00, and is also free for all orders over £40.00. The Express Home delivery cost £10.00, and it will get the package to your door in 1 – 2 days. For Express delivery, you’ll have to place the order before 3pm of the day to receive it in the 1- 2 days advertised.

For the shipping costs and times of Orders going to the other 17 supported regions, you can check the “Delivery Method” page in the website of Weekday. You’ll find that it is not in all the countries that the three delivery options are available. You’ll also find that in all the locations, delivery is relatively fast; with Express Delivery always taking 1 – 2 days, and Standard delivery ranging from 2 – 3 days to 4 – 6 days.  Delivery costs go: €3 (30 DKK, 30 SEK) for Pick-Up location (where available), €6 (45 DKK) for Standard Home delivery, and €10 (100 DKK, 100 SEK) for Express Home delivery. Also, free shipping is available in all locations (for orders over €50, 400 DKK, and 500 SEK).

It should be noted that all delivery are done in the weekdays; Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays are excluded. The advertised delivery times should mean that, unlike some fashion stores that’ll keep you waiting forever for your order, Weekday.com offers relatively fast delivery. However, a look at online customers’ review in independent platforms shows that Weekday is not the speedster you’ll think. In our opinion the problem comes from their order processing time. You should note that their advertised delivery time start counting after the package has been picked up by the carrier. Thus, it would seem that the problem comes from how long it takes for the package to be processed and dispatched to the carrier. Weekday did not give an estimate of how long it takes them to process orders; also, in some of the customers’ reviews, customers reported Weekday’s responding that order is in the “picking stage” when the expected delivery date was well past. This clearly shows that Weekday takes a relatively long time to process orders, especially for the Standard Delivery.

We’ll recommend that Weekday set a short order processing time, and try to maintain it so that orders are quickly dispatched to the carrier. Only then will the relatively short delivery times (which they advertise) translate to fast delivery. 

In terms of costs; Weekday.com does relatively okay. Generally, their delivery costs are competitive, even lower than you’ll get elsewhere. Also, the lowest possible cost is zero; and they offer that with free shipping to all locations. Lastly, the order qualifying amount is low-balled. With only £40/ €50, you’ll get free shipping; while you might need to spend up to three figures to get free shipping in some other fashion stores. This might be nitpicking, but the only thing we didn’t totally like was charging a fee for the Pick-UP location delivery option. In many other fashion stores, such in-store pickup is usually totally free.

Return Policy

There are many reasons why you may have to return an item purchased online to the store. Since you did not physically see and examine the item before completing the online purchase, upon receiving the item, it’s possible it may not have the same wow factor. Since most fashion items are sized products, it’s also possible for the ordered item to be a wrong fit; and lastly, it’s possible to have a damaged/ wrong item delivered to you. Thus, the ideal store will allow you return items that you are not totally satisfied with.

Returns Window:

The first consideration is usually the returns window; that is, how many days you have to return any item in your order back to the store. Weekday.com allows a 30 days window, which means that you have 30 days from the day you received delivery of the item to return it back to them.

This is a very generous returns window; and it means you’ll not be racing against time when making returns.

Ease of Returns

Painless service is what the ideal fashion shop should offer; and Weekday.com ticks that box with their returns process. In every location supported, they include a returns label in every package shipped.

If you have to return any item, all you have to do is fill the returns note, package the item using the original packaging, attach the returns label, and send the package through the recommended carrier. There are no long processes of going to the website, filling long forms, and printing documents.

Cost of Returns

You don’t want a store where returning an item is cost prohibitive. In some notorious stores, you’ll not only need to pay for returns in-bound shipping, you’ll also need to pay a restocking fee.

Thankfully, returns to Weekday are totally free. The returns label you’ll use is not only prepaid but also free, which means you’ll not have anything deducted from your refunds.

Refunds

The considerations here are – the nature of the refund, and how long the process takes. For the former, Weekday.com will issue your refund to the same method you used in making payment. This is a good one because, with your funds back in your bank account, you may then decide to continue in the shop or move to another shop. In some stores, refunds are only issued as store credits, in which case you will be restricted to coming back to the shop for your purchase.

In terms of refund processing time, you can expect to receive your refund from Weekday within two weeks of sending the returns back to them. This is also relatively fast, as there are fashion stores that will keep you waiting for up to a month or longer to receive your refund.

Returns Conditions

The items to be returned must be in their original conditions so that they can be resold. Thus, items must be returned unworn, unwashed, and undamaged, and have all their tags on. For hygiene reasons, items such as underwears, briefs, body and pierced jewellery cannot be returned; and for swimwear to be accepted when returned, they must still have their hygiene strip unbroken.

Customer Support

A legit store will care about its customers; and caring for customers entails making provisions to address customers’ questions or complaints. After all, issues are inevitable no matter how efficient a platform runs, and you won’t want to be left hanging when you contact the company about issues with your order.

The first stop to getting assistance in Weekday is an FAQ page on their website. The page hold articles that will answer many of the questions you’ll have about Weekday. However, it must be said that the FAQ page is not easily accessible in the website, as there’s no link to it from the landing page of their website. We only got to the FAQ page with a search. That said; if you do land on the FAQ, you’ll find it helpful.

However, if you still need to directly contact a customer support agent of the company, you can mail them or call them. For the email service, you may send you submissions to customerservice@weekday.com. Weekday responds to email submissions within 24 – 48 hours, which is relatively fast response time in the industry. However, if you want instant feedback, you can use the telephone service. The number to call will depend on the country you’ll be calling from. UK customers may use the land line 0203514777; for the numbers for the other markets, you can find them at the “Contact us” page of the website.

It’s a good thing that instant feedback method is supported; but for those who’ll rather not pick up the phone, live chat will be badly missed. It also does not help that using the telephone service is not free. Weekday does not provide toll-free lines, so you’ll be charged local call rates (and international rates in some locations). Spending money to call a customer support agent is not something a lot of customers find pleasing. Lastly, the telephone service is not available round the clock.

It should be said that if you look up customer reviews of Weekday online, you’ll find some really negative review; and the bulk of them was because of dissatisfaction with the customer support service. For example, in Trust Pilot Weekday is given an average rating of only 3.9 out of 10, with over 49% of the reviewers giving the company the worst possible rating (bad). “Cool clothes, shoddy customer service” is the theme. Some reported having to call (and losing money in the process) because Weekday will not answer mails; some reported being tossed back and forth when charged for items that were not delivered, and more.

While we did not have any complaints about the customer support service when we tested them, we’ll err on the side of caution and consider our case the exception rather than the norm. This is because we were disappointed that Weekday did not respond to any of the aggrieved customers in the customers’ review platforms that we checked. In our reviews of online fashion stores, we’ve seen that stores that put their customers first seek them even in these independent review platforms. And when any customer post a negative review because of a bad experience, the store responds and tries to bring the customer back to the table for resolution of his/ her complaint.

Call it PR or what-what mitigation; but there are many previously unresolved customers complaints that got solved from such. Thus, we’ll like to see Weekday reaching out to their many aggrieved customers in some of the popular platforms.

Summary

Weekday is a Swedish fashion brand now owned by the H&M Group. The storied status of the H&M Group tells you that any subsidiary of theirs will hold its own in the fashion circles; and sure, Weekday does hold its own as a go-to place for denim, youth culture and street inspired styles. Weekday is not only legit but also safe, so you can shop without worrying about your sensitive data being compromised. They operate 38 stores in 10 different countries, and ship merchandise to 18 countries of the world. What is more, they offer free shipping in every location they serve. With an intuitive website/ store, and support for different efficient payment methods, browsing listings, ordering, and making payment will be a breeze.

With a large inventory of different fashion products, Weekday is a store that you’ll want to enter if you need choice. To ensure a happy customer, they allow a generous 30 days to make any returns and they’ll issue refunds via your original payment method. And if you have any issue, you can always reach out to their customer support service.

I liked:

  • They offer a good range of fashion products for men and women, as well as a large inventory of each product type
  • Their items are competitively priced
  • They run regular price slashing promotions
  • Free shipping is available to all location; and the order qualifying amount is relatively low
  • They allow 30 days from the date of delivery for returns
  • Returns are free, and the process is very easy
  • Refunds are issued to original payment method (not as store credits), and within two weeks of Weekday receiving the returned items

I didn’t like:

  • They ship to only 18 locations all in Europe, so they do not serve the US and many other locations in the world
  • Small fee is charged for Pick-Up location delivery option
  • Order processing time seem to be relatively long, which leads to delays in delivery
  • Live chat is missing from customer support options
  • Telephone support service is not available 24/ 7; and you’ll pay applicable call rates
  • The many cases of customer service being unresponsive or providing frustrating service
