For example, at the time of writing this review, many of the gorgeous dresses listed were priced between $5.95 and $19.95. In fact, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a dress priced over $20, from the casual dresses to the gorgeous special occasion wear.

When writing this review, there was a lightning deals section where all items listed were for under $3.99; there was also a “3 for $20” section where you’ll find a host of clothing items and accessories.  No doubt; if you want low and affordable fashion pieces; think Romwe.

Promotions

Another important consideration in purchases is promotions; because with promotions, you can get items for significantly less than the items’ going rate. Thus, the ideal online store will offer many promotional offers. Keeping true to its promise of “incredible prices”, Romwe runs a lot of promotions.

Romwe is one fashion store that has developed apps for Android and iOS devices. If you install the app, you’ll get 15% off your first purchase (and no minimum order is required).

Promotions only go on for a specific period of time. Thus, you’ll need to keep checking the site regularly to know what promo is running at any one time. Alternatively, you may want to register for Romwe newsletter; this is incentivized and you’ll get 10% off your first order after registering.

Payment Methods

You won’t want to have a headache when it’s time to pay for your order. Thus, the ideal online store should offer a range of convenient payment methods. Romwe does relatively well in this regards. Romwe accepts payment made with PayPal and the popular credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover Card, and JCB).

Romwe currently provides COD (cash on delivery) payments in certain countries, specifically UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and India. However, minimum order requirements apply for COD service. For example, the order total must be over $50 for COD payment in UAE and Saudi Arabia. Also, service fee applies when using COD payment. For example, a $6 fee applies upon COD delivery to UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Shipping

This means that super fast delivery options like Same-Day delivery, Next Day delivery, or even 2 Days delivery are not possible with Romwe. In fact, as we’ll find in the complaints section, Romwe often does not deliver within these already long advertised delivery times.

Shipping Cost

The total acquisition cost of any online purchase is the item’s purchase price and its shipment cost. Thus, you’ll not want shipping cost to be too high, else even items that are acceptably priced could easily become too expensive to acquire.

Romwe does well in this regards. The shipping cost depends on where the item is shipping to and the selected shipping method. However, applicable costs are largely fair. For example, the lowest possible cost is zero (that is free shipping). Thankfully, Romwe offers free shipping.

For example, when shipping to the US, Flat Rate shipping is free for every item over $19, while Standard Shipping is free for every order over $39. You’ll also find that where free shipping does not apply, shipping rates are relatively low. For example, Flat Rate shipping of US orders priced $19 and under will cost $2.99, while Standard shipping of US Orders priced $39 and under will cost $4.99. You’ll find shipping costs that apply to your location after inputting your shipping address during checkout.

However, there are many pluses in the Romwe shipping costs, as follows:

  • Unlike many fashion stores that offer free shipping to only their domestic market, Romwe’s free shipping offer applies to every location
  • Many online fashion stores only have free shipping offer on their “slowest” shipping option, however, Romwe’s offer is available on their different shipping options
  • The minimum order requirement for free shipping is relatively low. Thus, you’ll not have to overspend in chase of free shipping

Returns

There is no doubt that in online purchases because shoppers do not have the opportunity to physically assess the items before purchasing it, many times when the order arrives, shoppers are not totally pleased with it. Thus, the ideal online store is one that allows customers to return items that they are not pleased with, and get either a replacement item or a refund of their payment. Thankfully, Romwe allows returns.

Return Process

While returns are accepted, you’ll want the process to be hassle-free. You don’t want a difficult return process frustrating your plans to return an unwanted item.

If you receive an item that you are not totally pleased with, you’ll have to contact Romwe and submit a return request. You’ll need to supply the reason for the returns. You’ll also have to show evidence of your claim; so photo attachments will usually be required. Romwe promises to review the return request and respond within 24 hours. If the request is approved, you’ll get an email authorization which will carry return instructions and the return address. Romwe offers prepaid return label, but you can opt to return directly on your own.

If approval is obtained, package the item appropriately. If you’re using the return label, attach the prepaid label to the outside of the package and take it for shipping. If you’ll not be using the return label, you’ll have to use a traceable carrier, because Romwe requires you to send them the return tracking number.

Cost of Return

High return cost can make you decide to keep an unwanted item. Thus, you’ll want return cost to be as low as possible. In this regards, Romwe does not charge such things as restocking fees. However, return shipping costs apply, and customers will have to bear these costs, so returns are not free.

Romwe gives you the option of using their return label or of shipping the return package yourself. The return label cost $7.99; with the label prepaid, the fee will be deducted from your eventual refund. Where you ship yourself, return shipping cost will vary (as the shipping service you use charges). However, keep in mind that the return address is in China.

Return Window

Usually, customers do not have forever to return an unwanted item, as only items getting back to the retailer within a timeframe are accepted. That said, you’ll want a relatively long timeframe so that there’ll be no risk of your return package getting back to Romwe late and be rejected.

Thankfully, Romwe offers just that. You’ll have 60 days from the delivery date to return back to Romwe any of its items that you are not totally satisfied with. If you’ve checked other reviews you’ll find that this is double the “standard” return which is usually 30 days from the delivery date.

Eligible Returns

Usually, it is not all items purchased from an online store that can be returned. However, you won’t want too many return restrictions so that you’ll not have an unwanted item on your hand that you cannot return.

In this regards, Romwe restricts the following items: bodysuits, lingerie, & sleepwear, swimwear, jewellery, and accessories (except scarves, bags, and mermaid blankets). However, to be accepted, eligible items must be in the new condition they were when delivered. They must be unworn, unwashed, and unaltered; they must also have all tags intact.

Return Processing and Refunds

After returning an item to a retailer, you won’t want your refunds to take forever to hit your account. Thus, the ideal online fashion store should feature fast processing of returns and issuance of refunds. In this regards, Romwe advertises that return promising take 5 business days after receipt of the item and that it issues the refunds immediately after processing. Usually, after refunds are applied it takes some time for it to reflect in your account. Romwe says that if you paid by PayPal, the refunds will reach your account 2 – 7 business days after, but where the payment was made by credit cards, refunds will take 10 – 30 days to reflect.

Thus, there’s a relatively fast 5 days refunds processing time, but the total waiting time does not make for good reading. However, as we’ll find in the complaints section, everything suggests that the total waiting time may even take longer than this already relatively long advertised waiting time.

Customer Support Service

Inevitably, some customers will have issues with their orders; and there’ll be others that’ll have questions. Thus, the ideal online store should have an effective customer support service to answer questions and resolve issues that customers will have.

Online platforms usually support self-help resources as well as direct help channels, and Romwe is not different. For self-help, Romwe has an FAQ page. It holds articles that answer many of the questions that you may have. The topics that the FAQ covers include: order issues, delivery, return & refund, payment & promos, product & stock, and account.

However, if you’ll still need to contact a Customer Support Rep, Romwe supports an email service. You can send them an email using the online contact form on their website. Romwe promises to answer every submission within 24 – 48 hours. However, persons will not want to be kept waiting if there’s a pressing concern, thus instant feedback channels are desired. Thankfully, Romwe also supports a live chat. However, it’s still disappointing that there is no support for telephone service.

Romwe Complaints

We include the complaint section in all our reviews so that you can read what real customers of the company being reviewed have to say about it. The customers’ complaints are a good gauge of how well the company operates. If reviews are few and far in between, then the company is probably very well. However, if reviews are voluminous and very frequent, then the company is probably has a lot of cleaning to do.

For our complaint sections, we usually look at the top independent online customers’ reviews platforms such as sitejabber.com and trustpilot.com. Interestingly, Romwe overall rating in these platforms is above average. For example, at the time of writing this review, Romwe had been rated by 2,133 customers, and it scored 3.1 out of 5; while in sitejabber it had been rated by 1,929 customers, and it scored 3.2 out of 5.

Truthfully, these ratings are much higher than we’ve seen for many China-based cross-border fashion stores. However, some complaints still stood out which are as follows:

Late Delivery

One complaint that usually follows Chinese fashion stores is late delivery. The customers’ reviews of Romwe suggest that Romwe is not immune to the “late delivery” problem. For example:

  • Jah D in Sitejabber says “Do NOT ORDER FROM HERE. It takes them forever for things to ship to you. My order number is RWKBC43363. Romwe you guys will not reply to me, and I need my money back! Guys please do not order from these people. They’ll take your money and take forever to ship your stuff!”
  • Emma L in Sitejabber says “ORDER TAKING FOREVER TO COME”. The review continued “I placed my order on the 9th of September and my package still has not been shipped. It is the 19th and I need my package by the 21st. I am highly upset with how long it took to process my order when it should’ve taken 2 – 4 business days according to the website. They still have not given my order to the post office! I know I won’t receive my package in time for my event. So now I have to go shopping again to try to find a dress. I contacted them and they said there is nothing they can do. Never order from them if you need a package by a certain date!!”

You may also find that when you order different items, Romwe will split your one order and send them you multiple packages at different times. The good thing is that this is at no cost to you; but the down part is that some of your items will come very late.

It should be said that there are many Romwe customers who reported being pleased with the time it took their orders to be delivered. However, there are just too many complaints about late delivery. As you can see from the examples above, the problem cannot simply be pushed on shipping service; many times, Romwe itself take longer than advertised to process orders and dispatch them for shipping.

That said, if you have to order anything from Romwe, it shouldn’t be a time-sensitive item. Else your date may come and you order hasn’t. It wouldn’t even be wise to pay for expedited shipping, you may simply be paying more for shipping items that’ll come late.

Not to Size

It’s almost impossible to see a Chinese fashion store that does not have customers complaining about items not being true to size. Unfortunately, Romwe customers featured such complaints. For example:

  • J in trustpilot says “Awful. Everything is too small and they won’t let me return it”
  • Paige P in sitejabber says “Order two sizes above your actual size” The review continued “I ordered two shorts and three shirts… I usually wear a large on the bottom and after reading the reviews I decided to order up and get an XL just to be safe. The XLs fit but are still a little small. I am six foot tall and they are not too short like most shorts I buy (I would recommend buying from here, just order two sizes up to make sure they fit properly”

The problem is usually items being too small. That said; you may really want to order items that are one or two sizes up.

Poor Quality

“Poor quality” is one complaint that usually follows Chinese fashion stores that in some quarters Chinese fashion stores are almost synonymous with poor quality. Also, “poor quality” complaints usually follow low-priced stores; and that is the origin of the “you get what you pay for” jibe.

Romwe happens to be both a Chinese fashion store and a low-priced store. Thus, it was unfortunate but not at all surprising to find that Romwe had an abundance of poor quality complaints are abundant. The first part of the poor quality complaint is that items received are often different from what was advertised in the product images. Another part is that items are made from poor quality materials, and yet another part is that the items are poorly made.

  • Haley Overgaard in Trustpilot says “NOT WHAT I ORDERED. What I saw online was different than what I got at my door. The quality is poor and catfish you with pictures of clothes making them look good quality. I do not recommend ROMWE
  • Laura O in sitejabber says “TERRIBLE” The review continued “Terrible quality clothing, terrible customer service. I would even argue that it’s a scam. No one responds to emails, and the website sends you in circles”
  • Veronica S in Sitejabber says “Cheap low-quality garbage” The review continued “Everything I ordered was huge. The quality was terrible. I shouldn’t have expected more, because everything is like three dollars. DON’T order from Romwe. You might as well just wear a suit made of trash bags”

It should be said that there are many reviews of customers satisfied with what they got, or with a few items in their orders. This means that Romwe does have quality items. However, poor quality complaints are just too many. This makes “poor quality” comes out as a significant problem plaguing Romwe. Thus, purchases in Romwe can be hit and miss. While you can actually get an okay-quality item, you easily can get delivered an item of poor quality that’ll not take time to fall apart.

Difficulty with Return and Refunds

With all the poor quality complaints, it’s not surprising that there will be an equally large amount of requests for returns and refunds. However, the customers’ reviews show that, most often than not, customers are left dissatisfied with the return and refund process. For example:

  • Portia Ocampo in Trustpilot says “Return/ Exchange Nightmare!!! Romwe makes it extremely difficult to return items. Their system is designed to spin you into a loop of confusion. If you order from this company beware of their process for returns. They want you to take pictures and etc. Some of the pictures on their site are misleading regarding the fabric of the clothes. I spent over an hour trying to contact someone regarding my issue. I was tempted to just call it a wash and be done with this company. If you order from this company, do not spend over 30 dollars per order. Count up the cost of confusion, especially if something does not fit, if it is damaged, or looks cheap. Thanks

I sent billing in from USPS and still keep getting run around and disconnected from a chat every time. This problem with “returns & refund” starts from getting return approval. It should be said that Romwe does not offer a “no questions asked” return policy; you’ll have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the item is “unfit”. However, many customers have it that even when they show that their order is “unfit”, Romwe still refuses them to return. As you’ll find from the reviews, Romwe has a habit of disconnecting chats, and not responding to return requests.

Then if you do get a return authorization, and do ship back the unwanted item, there is the problem of actually getting the refunds. Romwe advertises a relatively short “return processing and refund time”, but it appears they do not live up to these, as customers have had to wait and wait endlessly for their refunds.

It should be said that it is issued with “returns and refund” that make customers throw the scam label at retailers. That is, even when customers do not receive their orders, or even when they receive “poor quality” items, they’ll feel less pained if they are able to easily process returns and get refunded. However, where getting refunded is difficult, customers will feel being duped out of money and will throw out the scam label.

Thus, you’ll find in some platforms that Romwe is labelled a scam store. However, in our opinion, Romwe is not a scam; it is simply a legit fashion store that is beset with significant problems such as poor quality and difficulty with returns and refunds.

Poor Customer Support Service

Where complaints are numerous, there’ll be many submissions to the customer support service. However, the customers’ reviews show that customers rarely get needed assistance. For example:

  • Maryanne Altelawy in Trustpilot says “…I am extremely disappointed with the contact methods from Romwe. My tracking number said it’s been delivered to my house which I have not received! I’ve contact Royal Mail and they said I need to get a claim from the sender, in this case ROMWE. However it is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to contact them as they do not respond back to emails and all they have is an automatic response on their app. It’s absolutely USELESS…”
  • Victoria in Trustpilot says “Missing product and horrible customer service”. The review continued “…I tried to contact customer service multiple times over the course of two days and received horrible customer service and was constantly getting disconnected while trying to use the live chat. They tried to blame the bad connection on me, but I have no internet connection issues except for when I use their live chat. If you’ve closely followed this complaint section, you’ll already see that customers are often left dissatisfied with the support service of Romwe. We understand that customers may not always get their desired resolutions and that such customers will often go screaming that customer service was ineffective and unhelpful.

Thus, where customer support service is constrained by company policies, we do not totally place the “unhelpful” blame at the feet of the customer support service. However, in the case of Romwe, its customer support service was largely culpable. This is because of some basic failures, such as not responding to submissions, and disconnecting chats.
