For example, at the time of writing this review; in the women clothing shop they had: over 9,900 styles of dresses, over 1,900 jeans, over 4,000 activewear, and over 2,100 coats and jackets.

The size of the inventory is smaller in the men’s category than in the women’s, but it was still sizeable enough to dwarf what many stores offer. For example, at the time of writing, 6pm had: over 400 styles of men jeans, and over 1,800 T-Shirts.

Product Quality

The ideal fashion store should hold high quality products, so that even if you close your eyes and select any piece, you’ll still get a high quality item. By quality items, we mean pieces that are made from the best materials, and that are made well, and that will remain as is even after considerable use and wash. In this regards, 6pm says in an FAQ post that they do not sell “factory seconds”, but that as an authorized dealer they only hold first-quality merchandise.

We checked the independent platforms to find what customers have to say about the quality of 6pm items. It’s safe to say that customers are largely satisfied with what they get. Though, there are negative reviews about quality, they are not significant enough as to attract a “poor quality” label for the store.

Prices and other Policies

Price

The price of items is the most important consideration in any purchase, as there is no one that will want to pay an unreasonable price for any item no matter the perceived quality of that item. However, the target of binging prices down should not be at the expense of quality; that is, low priced items does not equate to poorly made, low quality items. As a result, the ideal fashion store will provide quality items that are reasonably priced.

Because 6pm offers a large inventory, you’ll also find a wide range of prices. As a result, you’ll find low priced items, as well as expensive items clearly marked “luxury”. For example, at the time of writing, there were a lot of gorgeous dresses in the $25.99 – $59.99 range, while those with the “luxury” tag ranged from $159.99 to $325.99.

Also, women’s jeans started from as low as $19.99, and hundreds of styles were under $50; but at the same time, there were a couple that was in three figures. You’ll also find a hundreds of women’s jackets under $50. It was the same for the men’s products. Many jeans were priced $24.99 – $55, while there were also the “luxury” jeans with prices in three figures; and you’ll find hundreds of T-Shirts priced $9.99 – $29.99.

That said; no matter the size of your pockets, you’ll find quality pieces that you can take home at 6 pm. In fact, many other stores will struggle to match the prices offered at 6 pm.

Everyone likes cost-saving offers. Promotions offer such cost savings opportunities because through promotions you can get items for free or for less than their full prices. If you want to value, you’ll always look out for stores with a lot of promotional offers.

6pm ticks the box in this regard. In fact, 6pm advertises as a “deals site”; that is, a site to get discounted shoes, clothing, accessories, and more. Thankfully, 6pm lives up to the promise. Thus, if you want cost-saving offers, you’ll fall in love with 6pm. They run a lot of time-specific promotions from time to time; so you’ll have to check their site to know what deal is available at each particular time.

At the time of writing, there were many 60% or more off MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) clearance deals such as up to 70% off MSRP clearance sandals, up to 70% off MSRP clearance Swim, up to 70% off MSRP clearance Dresses, up to 70% off MSRP clearance Tops and Jeans, and more.

Payment Methods

You don’t want to have a headache when paying for your items; thus you want an easy payment system. This starts from having a wide range of payment methods to choose from.

In this regard, 6 pm accepts supports only credit or debit cards. They accept payments made with Master Card, Visa, Discover, and American Express. Apart from the credit cards, the only other way you can pay for your orders in 6 pm is via gift cards. Granted, fashion stores do not break the roof with alternate payment methods, but the number of options supported by 6 pm comes out as limited. They do not even support PayPal, not to mention web wallets, bank transfer options, or cryptocurrencies.

Shipping

There are two expedited shipping options – 2 business days shipping and 1- business day shipping. The former will deliver your package in 2 business days following order placement and it cost $9.99; while the latter will deliver your order in one business day following order placement, and it cost $14.99. However, expedited shipping is not available for shipments to Hawaii, Alaska, US Territories, P.O Boxes, and military addresses.

It should be noted that the advertised shipping times are just the carrier’s transit times, and are not inclusive of the time it takes the store to process the order before dispatching it to the carrier. Thus, you should allow some time for order processing when expecting delivery of your 6 pm orders.

Our review

The lowest possible shipping cost is zero, which is free shipping. It’s a good thing to see that 6 pm offers free shipping. Another good thing about the offer is that the qualifying order is low-balled. That is, you only have to spend $50 to qualify for free shipping. To put this in perspective, in some stores, you’ll have to spend up to three figures ($100 or more) to get free shipping. That said; when shopping at 6 pm, you won’t be pressured to overspend in order to get free shipping.

Also, where free shipping does not apply (for orders under $50 or expedited orders), 6pm offers flat shipping rates. This is good because what you pay for shipping will not increase with an increase in your order weight or size. Also, the rates charged are relatively low; in fact, they are some of the lowest for shipping fashion items to the US.

In terms of shipping times, the 4 – 5 business days transit time for Standard shipping is also relatively fine. This will mean that your order will ship in record time. However, we don’t know how long it takes before the order ships, because while 6pm does say that you should allow time for order processing, they do not estimate how long that’ll take. We’ll like that 6 pm clearly states their order processing time.

However, you should know that though you’ll find some negative reviews about 6 pm on independent customers’ review platforms, you won’t find many that have to do with late delivery. Thus, it’s safe to say that 6 pm generally delivers orders quickly.

Returns

There are many reasons you’ll want to return an item to a retailer, especially online purchases and sized products. With items purchased online, there is no opportunity to physically assess the items before ordering them, so there’s the possibility that you won’t be totally satisfied with what you are delivered.

With sized items, there is the possibility of ordering a wrong fit, which turns out either too big or too small. Thus, the ideal online store will be one that allows customers to return items that they are not totally satisfied with. Like almost all fashion stores in the industry, 6pm allows returns.

Return Conditions

Returned items will be put back on sale; so 6pm accepts returns of only items in the same conditions they were received. That means the items to be returned must be unworn, unwashed and unaltered. Also, all items should have all tags attached, and should also be in their original packaging.

6 pm gives a returns window of 30 days; which means that you have up to 30 days from the date of receiving a delivery to return any item back to the store. 30 days window is a generous offer, and it is on par with what most fashion stores offer. You’ll not have to worry about racing against a calendar to get your order to the store in time.

Return Process

Where a returns process is too cumbersome, you may be forced to keep the item instead of going through the troubles. Thus, you want a store with an easy returns process.

To return items by 6pm you’ll have to visit the website, log into your account, find your order and select the items you wish to return. On the final screen of the returns process, you’ll find the returns address to send the return package. Package your items appropriately using the original packaging, and clearly write the return address on the package.

Where the original packaging is not available, you’ll have to print the email with your confirmation number and include it in the return package. Then you can take the package to any carrier of choice and post it at 6pm.

While the returns process of 6pm is itself not cumbersome, it is also not as easy as we’ll want. First, they do not provide return labels. A very simple process will include a pre-addressed return label in your package, and returning an item to the store will simply entail affixing the label to the returns package and mailing it. But at 6 pm, you’ll have to visit their website to initiate the returns process and follow it to the end before you can get the returns address.

Cost of Returns

Just as it is with the returns process; you don’t want to be put off returning an item to a store because of the high cost of doing so. Thus, the ideal store will have returns costs that are as low as possible.

The lowest possible cost is zero; that is free returns. Unfortunately, 6pm does not offer free returns. They make it clear that customers are responsible for all return shipping charges. Also, since no return label is provided, there is no fixed rate that you’ll be charged for returns; the charge will be dictated by the carrier that you choose for returning the item by 6 pm.

Exchanges

Product exchange is returning the item you were delivered and getting another in its place. Some stores allow exchanges of similar products, but for a different size or colour. Exchanges are welcomed because they allow you to get the new item quickly; you’ll not have to wait to receive your refund before placing a new order.

Unfortunately, 6pm does not allow product exchanges. You’ll have to return the item; wait to get refunded, before placing the new order. This means that at 6pm, when you want to return an item for a similar one of different colour or size, it’ll take relatively longer.

Refunds

When you return an item for a refund; if the item meets the return conditions, 6pm will issue you a full refund of the purchase price to the original method of payment.

Getting your refund via your original means of payment means that it will be paid as cash into your bank account, and not as store credits into your 6pm account. This is a good one because after getting your cash refund, you may choose to go to another shop for your purchase; whereas store credits would have restricted you to shop from the store.

It should also be said that 6pm refunds only the original purchase price of the item; the original shipping cost is not refunded. Not refunding the original shipping cost adds to “no free returns” and “no exchanges” to make it expensive to return an item and get another one in the store.

How? After paying the original shipping cost, you’ll pay returns shipping when returning the item to 6pm, and you’ll pay for shipping again for the new order. That’s three shipping charges. Where original shipping costs are refunded or free returns are offered, the cost burden will be lightened. It is also lightened where exchanges are allowed because the store usually takes care of the cost of shipping the new item to you.

It is therefore not surprising that one of the problems you’ll find highlighted in negative reviews of the refund process of 6pm is the high cost of returning items to get a new item.

Refunds Processing Time

Another important consideration is the refund processing time, which is how long it takes from the time the store receives the returned item to the time they issue the refund to your bank. Except you don’t mind waiting forever to receive your refund, you’ll always look at this aspect of a returns policy.

6pm states that it takes them around two weeks to process returns and issue the refunds. Though, there are some stores that take longer, two weeks of processing time is not the quick processing time we’ll want to see. It should be noted that after the store issues the refund, it will take some time before your bank reflects the funds in your account statement.

Depending on your bank, this will take 2 – 10 business days (and up to 30 days for internationally-issued cards). This waiting time must be factored in when expecting refunds; thus, we’ll like to see a shortening of the refunds processing time so that the overall waiting time will be shortened.

Because of this relatively long refund processing time, it’s also not surprising that another complaint you’ll find in the customers’ review platform is that 6 pm refunds take long before they are received.

Customer Support

Customers will always have questions, no matter how effectively a store runs, there’ll be those who have problems with their orders. Thus, the ideal store will have an effective support service for addressing customers’ questions or issues.

The effectiveness of the service can be measured by the available channels for getting help; the responsiveness of support service (that is how fast they respond to customers’ submissions), and the helpfulness of their responses.

The first step to getting help from 6pm is the self-help resources on their website. These include detailed policy pages (shipping and returns) as well as an FAQ page. You’ll find information on a range of topics including answers to questions that customers have asked in the past.

We didn’t like that the customer service is not available round the clock. Because 6 pm is US facing, there’ll be no problem of the service’s uptime being the downtime of another time zone and vice versa. However, we’ll still like to have a 24/ 7 support service, at least for the nocturnal users.

LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE! I've always regarded the Zappos family very highly. But PLEASE be aware that if ANYTHING goes wrong during shipping (i.e. carrier damage/loss), you WILL be left empty handed, PERIOD. From their Terms of Use: “risk of loss and title for items purchased by you from Zappos/6pm.com pass to you upon our delivery of the items to the carrier”.



This is regarding my experience with 6pm.com order # 113-2471917-3725019 (Zappos.com LLC is dba 6pm.com). The package arrived damaged, in terrible shape and the shoes were missing. It was never left unattended.



I quickly discovered that they show no regard for the customer and are quick to make false accusations, disregarding all facts. Continually asking me to wrongfully file a police crime report for 'theft of property' that never occurred. Now they state they are "not able to respond to any further attempts to contact anyone". For an Amazon company, this is unbelievable.



I reached out to USPS and described the situation in detail. They told me what likely occurred is that the item fell out during transit due to the damaged package. They stated fallouts do occur and advised that Zappos must file an insurance claim directly with them.

While it's nice that you admit to at least one of your false statements, nothing has been done to rectify it and my refund is still being wrongfully withheld. When has a company issuing blatantly false statements been acceptably regarded as an insignificant oversight?



[6pm.com] "Our records indicate that the package was delivered to your address and once a package is delivered, the matter is no longer a carrier issue."

How exactly is shipping damage/loss during transit not considered a carrier issue?



[Ellie B.] "Our Terms of Use state that the “risk of loss and title for items purchased by you from 6pm.com pass to you upon our delivery of the items to the carrier.”"

(1.) Your Terms of Use are deceptively incongruent with your advertised core values: "That "more" is providing the very best customer service, customer experience, and company culture.". (2.) That's what carrier insurance is for.



This is so disheartening to me. I do not like being falsely accused. This experience is not in line with Zappos' "purpose", "to live and deliver WOW". Tony Hsieh would be ashamed!
