LimeVPN review tells you if LimeVPN is legit. And also if LimeVPN safe, secured, real. Or if it is scam and fake. LimeVPN complaints and feedback of users are also reviewed. So, if you are looking for the best and unbiased LimeVPN reviews, you have come to the right place.

What is LimeVPN?

Lime does not suggest protection or security, but that is actually what LimeVPN is all about. It is a VPN service provider that entered the industry in 2014, for the singular purpose of protecting users from online threats. This unusually named VPN advertises as a cheap VPN provider.

Is this a case of getting what you pay for, or do they give their advertised low prices while still offering premium VPN features? This review will provide the information to help you answer that question.

Is LimeVPN safe and legit?

LimeVPN is safe and legit based on our findings. They have kill switch which will be of great use to your safety. Also, you are free to cancel your subscription and have your money back.

Service Plans and Pricing

Packages

Lime VPN offers two service plans – Basic Plan and Pro Plan. The Pro Plan is the service’s premium plan and has more features than the Basic Plan.

RECOMMENDED TOP 3 BEST VPN ALTERNATIVES:

  1. Ipvanish.com
  2. Expressvpn.com
  3. Purevpn.com

Note: Since you have nothing to loss, it will be a very good idea to register from this post so we can be able to assist you by getting in touch with them if you have any problem in the future. We have the power to force them into rectifying their faults. However, we cannot do anything if you try to trick the system. Just make sure you comply with their rules and regulations to make it easier for us.

Both plans offer the same security standard, access to support, and access to all locations in their server network. Both plans also include a VPN NAT firewall which gives an extra layer of security by protecting your devices from unrequested traffic. While the Basic Plan allows only 2 simultaneous connections, the Pro Plan allows up to 20. Exclusive to the Pro Plan are features such as P2P/ torrenting, Tor compatibility, static private IP, and a dedicated private VPN node.

Pricing

The Basic Plan has three billing periods – every month, every year, and every two years.

The monthly subscription cost $2.49; the one year subscription cost $17.88, which breaks down to $1.49 per month; and the two years subscription cost  $24.00, which breaks down to $1.00 per month.

Their pricing follows the industry model – you save more by buying the longer term packages. The one year package will give you a 40% cost saving, while the two years package will give you a 60% cost saving.

The loudest of LimeVPN’s many claims is that the service is very cheap. Yes it is. The $2.49 single month cost is easily the cheapest in the market, so also is their one year deal; and their best value deal of $1.00 involves only a two years’ commitment. Most services that manage to offer the $1.00 per month deal require longer commitment  (usually 3 – 4 years).

The Pro Plan also has three packages as the Basic Plan. The monthly subscription cost $19.99; the one year subscription cost  $179.88, which breaks down to $14.99 per month; and the two years subscription cost  $264.00, which breaks down to $11.00 per month.

You also save more with the longer term packages. The one year subscription will give you a 25% cost saving, while the two years subscription will give you a 45% cost saving. Yet the Pro Plan comes out as very expensive. Most of the services considered as expensive have single month packages of about $10.00; Lime VPN’s single month deal is twice that.

Since the premium features of the Lime VPN service are available only on the Pro Plan, and it is highly priced, many users who’ll go for the cheap will not experience the full capabilities of the service.

Payment Methods

Lime VPN offers a lot when it comes to payment methods; you can pay for the service with anyone of over 120+ supported payment options. They accept PayPal, as well as all major credit/ debit cards including Visa card, Master Card, Discover card and American Express. They also accept bank transfers, Western Union, and Amazon gift cards.

For super privacy conscious users who’d rather pay for the service anonymously, Lime VPN accepts Bitcoins. If alternative payment method is your concern; Lime VPN is an ideal choice that support all the convenient regular payment methods as well as anonymous payment methods.

Free trial

A free trial will allow you test a service free of charge for a period of time; so that when you make the decision to buy a service package, it is not because of the “sweet” marketing blurbs of the service, but because you have personally used the service and was satisfied with the experience.

Unfortunately, Lime VPN does not offer free trials. This might turn off some users who look out for VPN services with free trial accounts. However, Lime encourages that you should try out the service using their money back guarantee.

Money back Guarantee

Money back guarantee are offered to ensure that active users are satisfied with the service. It allows for users who are unhappy with a service to request a full refund of their payment.

Lime VPN provides an unconditional and no questions asked 7 days 100% money back guarantee on both the Basic and Pro plans.

Lime VPN advices that you turn the 7 days guarantee to a 7 days free trial; that is, buy a subscription, use it for a least 7 days, and request a refund. While this would still allow for free testing, it is technically different from an actual free trial because you will be charged initially. Also, persons who pay anonymously cannot receive refunds of payment; which means that you cannot test run the Lime VPN service free of charge without leaving trails behind.

The 7 days refund window of Lime VPN is short especially as they do not have free trials. In comparison to other services; some services give money back guarantees of up to 30 days in addition to some days of free trial.

That said, if you want an extended period to try out a service free of charge, you might have to look beyond Lime VPN.

Server Network

Lime VPN advertises that they operate servers in 17+ locations from US to UK, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.

The whole of South America and Africa are not represented in the network. The regions covered by the network include: North America (the US, Canada), Europe (the UK, Germany, France, Sweden, and the Netherlands), Asia (Singapore and India), and Oceania (Australia).

This means that the network of the Lime VPN service is not truly global. The network is also relatively small because the big players provides thousands of servers in hundreds of locations in every region of the world.

Lime VPN acknowledges that their server network is small with this quote: “You probably don’t need to pay four times as much for hundreds of servers you’ll never use when you’re actually using only 5 of them during a month“.

In essence, they are saying, “Yes, we have a small network, but you don’t really need a big network because you might not use all the servers in the big network”. The truth is, it is for that very reason that a robust network is needed. A robust network ensures that connections are spread such that particular servers are not overcrowded, helping to avoid the poor performance associated with overcrowded servers.

However, Lime VPN despite their modest network manage to offer limitless IP addresses (about 6000). This will adequately serve you in spoofing your location. The service also allows unlimited server switches; which means that you can further enhance your anonymity by changing locations as many times as you wish.

Another scoring point for the Lime VPN network is that everything is done in-house. They wrote their code, personally manage their network, and own all their servers. All third party server services (and the security risks of using such third parties) are eliminated.

Features

Simultaneous Connections

It is rare to see users with only one device. Typically, users would have a mobile device and at least a desktop that they use at the same time; and they’ll want a service that allows them secure all the devices at the same time.

Lime VPN allows up to 20 simultaneous connections, but that’s on the pricey Pro Plan. For the pocket friendly Basic Plan, you are allowed only two connections.

Supported Devices

Lime VPN supports all the popular operating systems and platforms – Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, and Linux. You can also configure the Lime VPN on routers (DR WRT, Asus, and D LINK).

The service is exemplary in that they have invested in the development of their own apps. They currently have applications for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android OS. To use the service on the other devices for which there are no custom apps (such as Linux), you’ll have to configure their settings manually. For this, Lime VPN has a “How to use VPN” page that provides easy-to-use step-by-step set up instructions.

Ease of Use

Lime VPN, like many services in the market, go for simplicity. Seriously, having invested in developing apps for the popular platforms, it would have surprising if the service was anything but simple and easy to use. You should breeze through the process of signing up, downloading the app and installing it. Upon login, a very simple interface greets you. Even if you have never used a VPN before, you’ll have no problem using Lime VPN. You can simply select a server, a VPN protocol and connect.

Upon connection, the interface shows your connection status, your virtual IP, and a data transfer counter. You can also easily navigate to settings for configurations such as auto connect, kill switch and leaks protection.

Torrenting

People seek VPNs that support torrenting because it becoming dangerous to connect to peers to download torrents. The activity is one of the fastest ways to download files in the internet, but insidious peers can use the file sharing activity to attack your devices and steal sensitive information stored in them.

However, most VPNs do not suppot torrenting because some users use the VPN cover to do illegal torrenting (downloading copyrighted materials). As such, any VPN service that supports the activity is highly rated.

Lime VPN supports torrenting, but only on the Pro Plan. They also offer unlimited bandwidth; so you’ll have no worries of bandwidth usage when downloading torrents. However, since the Pro plan that supports torrenting is highly priced, most users will not fancy the service for torrenting, especially since there are cheaper services that also offers safe and anonymous torrenting. Also, because the Lime VPN service has few servers, they have even fewer P2P servers, and these will, most often than not, be overcrowded.

Streaming

Lime VPN makes many claims, but being the “best VPN for beating the geo restrictions of streaming services to unblock countless channels” is not on of them.

Streaming services make their content location specific. If you are in location X but need to watch content available for viewing only in location Y, you need a VPN to give you a virtual IP that places you in location Y. However, VPNs can no longer unblock geo restricted contents by simply placing you in the region where the desired content is available; this is because the giant streaming services are now blocking VPNs from accessing their contents.

Lime VPN unblocks channels like Hulu, ABC, Fox Go, and HBO Now; but it failed to unblock the giants like Netflix and BBC iPlayer. This means that on the whole, Lime VPN will not count among the excellent services for streaming.

Static Private IPs

Lime VPN offers IP address that will be exclusively used by you with dedicated resources.

By default when you connect to a VPN server, the IP address you get is a shared IP. While this is good for anonynity, there are some disadvantages of a shared IP. Many streaming services easily blacklist and block shared IPs; most applications (such as) will require you to re-authenticate at every turn; and most banking sites, to avoid fraud, will block you anything you try to access them with a different IP.

Lime VPN’s static private IP allows you have smooth online experience by avoiding the incessant re-authentication requests and blockings that plague shared IPs. The only snag is that the static private IP is only available on the Pro Plan which may break the wallet of some users.

TOR over VPN

The Tor network gives anonymity but has its own vulnerability; and a VPN gives a level of security and anonymity. The two services can be combined for optimal protection; as such any VPN service that is compatible with the Tor network appeals to a lot of security conscious users.

Lime VPN has that advantage; it allows you to use TOR over a VPN to protect your anonymity inside public networks. However, the Tor compatibility is available only on the Pro Plan, which, as has been said before, may break the wallets of many users.

Privacy And Security Features

Protocols and Encryption

Lime VPN supports a range of protocols for establishing connections such as OpenVPN, L2TP, PPTP Protocols and Softether.

The OpenVPN is a secure protocol; no vulnerability has been found in it to date. It offers strong protection by using OpenSSL library and SSL/TLS protocols.

The L2TP/ IPSec is a secure alternative to the OpenVPN; the Softether supports RSA certificate authentication and Deep Inspect Packet logging function which makes it a secure protocol for even places with with severe censorship such as China and the Middle East. The PPTP is widely regarded as insecure, but it offers the advantage of speed.

The support of different protocols will appeal to users, because users like having alternate protocols that can be called on when a choice protocol does not work.

In terms of encryption, the PPTP uses the MPPE 128 bit cipher and MS-CHAPv2 authentication. This is not air-tight, and it is advices that the PPTP be used only when security is not a priority. The other protocols use the golden standard – AES 256 bit encryption algorithm. This is unhackable military grade encryption; which is used by military agencies to secure sensitive top secrets. With this encryption level, you can be assured that the data you will transmit through the Lime VPN system is secured.

Kill Switch

Lime VPN says that they own all their hardware and personally manage their network; this mean that they can almost completely assure a connection. Such a reliable service attracts users. However, no service has a 100% uptime. Lime VPN service say they have a 96.9% uptime.

There are times when the VPN will suddenly loose connection, causing your traffic and real IP to be exposed to watching eyes. The kill switch prevents this. It cuts off internet connection the moment the VPN looses connection, ensuring that you do not continue online an spill your real IP.

This shows that the kill switch is a feature that VPNs must have for optimal security. Thankfully, Lime VPN comes with a kill switch to ensure that your security and privacy is not compromised in those 3.1% of time when the VPN will be down.

DNS leaks Protection

Lime VPN also comes with DNS leaks protection. This is an added layer of security to ensure that your online activity and IP is not exposed. DNS leaks happen when DNS requests leaves the VPN tunnel, and goes to the default connection (that is, DNS servers of your ISP). The leaks will effectively shatter your anonymity by revealing what pages you called, as well as your real IP.

Lime VPN DNS leaks protection ensures that requests do not go outside the VPN tunnel. DNS leaks are easy to test, so I ran some test to see if the service will leak my DNS. It was goodnews all the way. No DNS or IP leaks.

Logging

Does Lime VPN keep logs? They answer: “LimeVPN does NOT log any VPN usage or user activity“. Some time in the past, we’ll simply believe this and score the service as a no-log VPN; but things have changed. Some VPN services claiming not to log users’ data have been found to log. Many others use catchy no-log blurbs on their front pages, but the fine prints of their privacy policy will reveal that they collect and store tons of information. So it is necessary to examine the fine prints of Lime VPN to make sure that they really do not keep logs.

Lime VPN’s privacy policy is short and very clear. It starts with the same statement that the service does not log users’ activity; but this time, they elaborate. Users’ activity not logged include web traffic data, websites visited, files downloaded, videos watched etc.

As can be seen, this is a small section of users log that can be logged. Though there are no standard definitions, “logs” in the VPN world are generally categorized into activity logs and connection (or session) logs. The logs that Lime VPN say they do not keep is activity logs. What about session logs?

The privacy policy continues that the service do record some data which include: time, date and location VPN connection was made; duration of the vpn connection; and the bandwidth used during the connection. QED. Lime VPN keeps connection logs. This would be no problem if connection logs were harmless. But, contrary to what most connection log keeping services will tell you, these logs can be combined with other tit-bits to narrow in on a user’s identity. This isn’t just theoretical; there is a record of a VPN user whose tracking was facilitated by seemingly harmless connection logs.

Lime VPN explains that they keep these information so that if a crime is committed or their Terms of Service is violated, they will use the trace logs to determine the account that is in violation. There are services that have devised ways to check abuse without keeping any logs whatsoever be it activity logs or session logs.

On a happy ending, they pledge that they will not provide any personal or private information of users to third parties under any circumstance.

Jurisdiction

They do not state how they will respond when served a legal document by law enforcement to disclose users’ data. However, I believe that, just like every other service, they will cooperate.

Lime VPN says you shouldn’t worry about this because they are located in Singapore. Singapore have some friendly privacy laws including a Personal Data Protection Act which state that express consent must be granted by individuals before collecting, using or disclosing their data. Also, Singapore is not a member of the global Eyes alliances. These are surveillance (read: spy) networks where member countries work together to gather intelligence on specific targets.

Speed

LimeVPN is one of the few providers who offers guaranteed network bandwith of up to 10 Gbps. This promise to give blazing speed.

A VPN service will definitely slow down network speed because of the encryption and rerouting that is done. In the basic speed tests, we check to see by how much the VPN service reduce the network speed. Blazing speed by a VPN will mean that the speed drop is so small it is indecipherable.

On the average, the Lime VPN service dropped download speed and upload speed by 57% and 32% respectively. Services that reduce speed by 50% are still considered fast. So, on the upload front, the Lime VPN service is pretty fast; but they didn’t live up to the fast speed on the more important download front. Overall, their speed is just above average. However, this is enough to do virtually everything from watching HD movies to downloading without disruptions.

Customer Support

Lime VPN offer the usual support channels – the self help channels and direct contact channels.

Lime VPN self help resources include an FAQ section, a knowledgebase and VPN tutorial section. The FAQs hold answers to questions that users have asked in the past; it will answer some of the questions you’ll have about the Lime VPN service. The knowledgebase of other services address more technical questions and troubleshooting; but LimeVPN’s knowledgebase didnt open. The tutorial section is where Lime will win all the awards there are; the section is well arranged. You can choose your operating system or desired protocol and get detailed step-by-step instruction for setting up the service. The tutorials are made easy with visual guides for various steps in the installation process.

If you’ll rather contact Lime VPN for assistance, you can do this via live chat, email, and ticket system. They also say: “arrange a voice call and we can provide remote desktop support on demand”; but they list no telephone number for placing such a call.

They say they’ll endeavour to answer all submissions to the live chat within 5 minutes. For the ticketing and email support service, the waiting can take up to 24 hours.

Summary

Lime VPN might have an unusual name for a VPN, but there’s nothing unusual about the level of security that the service gives. It’s top notch. They offer secure protocols including the OpenVPN and Softether, they use the industry high AES 256 bit encryption algorithm, they have a kill switch, they plug DNS and IP leaks, the service can be used with the Tor network for optimal protection, and they allow anonymous payment. The service can actually advertise “security and privacy provisions” as one of its strongest points. Its only weakness on this front is that they collect session logs; but this is tempered somehow by their location in Singapore which is outside the territory of invasive intelligence agencies and surveillance alliances.

The service is very easy to set up and use, and they have native apps for most operating systems.

Lime VPN say they’re the cheapest VPN with premium features, but that’s just one side of the story. Their Basic Plan makes them easily the cheapest VPN in the market, but their Pro Plan makes them one of the most expensive.

They support torrenting and offer dedicated IPs (which is good), but these features are only available on the expensive Pro Plan.

Lastly, they do not give Netflix, they offer just above average speed, and their server network is really really small.
