Research Participants Institute review: How you earn money
Research Participants Institute is a nationwide research company that pays you to review presentations and provide opinions through questionnaires and focus group discussions.

There are two different ways you can earn money:

In-Person Projects and Online Projects

1. In-person projects:
RPI conducts In-Person Projects both at their home office in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and throughout the United States. In-person projects are typically higher pay than online projects and therefore require more time from you.

In-Person Projects last anywhere from one day to several weeks depending on the type of project. As an RPI participant, you will observe the presentation and provide your thoughts and opinions through questionnaires and focus group discussions.

Schedule
Typically a full day is 7:00 am until 6:00 pm and the first hour to two hours consists of a project orientation as well as initial paperwork. However, each of their projects is different and range in length and format.

Over the course of the day, you will have breaks to walk around or use the restroom. They do not allow participants to leave the facility over the course of the project because of the tight schedule of all our projects.

Payment
Payment for in-person projects will be in the form of a check. You will receive your payment upon completion of the project (typically same day) or on a weekly basis depending on the project type.

Participants that receive over $600 in compensation (in any fiscal year) will be required to complete a W-9 form. An RPI representative will provide you with this information when you are contacted and screened for a project.

What to Bring
Bring your driver’s license or state-issued ID with you to the project. They provide pen and paper for note-taking. We encourage you to bring a book or magazine for any downtime during the project.

They provide meals depending on the project length. If you have special dietary needs or preferences, please always bring your own food and essentials with you.

What to Wear
They ask that their participants wear casual business attire to all our projects. They ask that you refrain from wearing jeans, T-shirts, shorts, sweats, tennis shoes, flip-flops, or hats. However, they do not turn people away because of their attire.

How it Works
Majority of their projects require that you live in a certain area to be eligible for a particular project. RPI must comprise its groups based on the demographic composition of the population of the area the project is being conducted. RPI also strives to comprise its groups with diversity. There is a screening process for all in-person projects which is done over the phone by a RPI representative.

RPI typically schedules more participants than what may be needed for the full project. If you are not selected at orientation, day of the project, to complete the full project you will receive a portion of the full payment for your time. You will be provided with this information beforehand when you are called and screened for a project on the phone.

2.Online Projects:
Their Online Projects require you to read over presentations and give your opinion by completing questionnaires via the Internet. They contact you when they have a project available in your area. These online projects range in length from 15 minutes to 2 hours.

Sign-Up
Your registration at researchparticipants.com will make you a candidate for online research projects when you select the “online project” preference during the sign-up process. You will be notified via email when you are selected to complete an online project. You must provide a valid email address when you sign-up.

Schedule
The advantage of online projects is the ability to participate from the comfort of your own home or office. Once you have received an email invitation, their online projects are available for completion 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Once you receive an email invitation for a project, you may complete it when it’s most convenient for you, as long as your work is completed by the project deadline (when they have reached their max number of completions needed for that particular project). They do ask that you complete the project in one sitting, which can range from 15 minutes to 2 hours.

Payment
Online projects are a great way to earn extra money. Online participants are only paid after they have successfully completed a project. You will receive a check in the mail delivered to the address you provide during the sign-up process. Checks are mailed after the project is completed which can take one to several weeks depending on the project type.

Requirements
All you need to participate in online projects is a computer with a web browser, access to the Internet, and a valid email address. Broadband internet access is desirable because some projects feature large files to view which may result in slow response times over dial-up connections.

Majority of their projects require that you live in a certain area to be eligible for a particular project. RPI must comprise its groups based on the demographic composition of the population of the area the project is being conducted.

Research Participants Institute Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

Can I be a participant even if I have a full-time job?
Absolutely. Their in-person projects can be done on a day off or paid-vacation time allowing you to earn extra spending money. Their online projects allow you the ability to make money any time from your own computer after being notified and before the project deadline.

Where are the in-person projects held?
In-Person Projects are held at pre-arranged facilities throughout the country as well as heir home office in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The exact meeting location and address for a particular project is given after the screening process.

How many projects can I do?
After you sign-up with RPI, they keep your name in their database and contact you for future online and/or in-person projects that you are eligible for.

Do you withhold taxes?
No. It is your responsibility to report and remit withholding taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.

What is the subject matter of the project?
For both online and in-person projects, each project is unique and they do not disclose the subject matter until the day of the project. They pride themselves in conducting valid research therefore they want candid, unbiased reactions and opinions to the issues they are testing.

Can my friends and family do it too?
Friends and family are welcome to register with RPI! They encourage you to tell others about RPI and how they can earn money too. Please note that they do not schedule friends or family members for the same project due to their need for diversity in each of their projects.

Only the person specifically contacted by a RPI representative, screened, and assigned to the project is able to attend. Please do not bring friends or family along with you to an In-Person Project since they would not be eligible to participate. They will try contacting them for the next project they do.

Do I have to qualify?
No, anyone over the age of 18 and eligible to work in the U.S. can register with RPI. They do however have a screening process that is done over the phone for all our in-person projects since we are required to meet certain criteria. If we are unable to use you on a particular project or your demographic category is full, we will try to contact you first when another project you are eligible for becomes available.

What is orientation?
For in-person projects, they over-recruit participants just in case some people do not attend. If more than enough people attend, they randomly release people after the orientation (usually the first hour to two hours of your project). If this happens you will be paid for your time and they will contact you for future projects in your area.

How do I get paid?
In-Person Projects: You will be paid by check at the conclusion of the project.

Online Projects: You will receive a check-in mail. The check is delivered to the address you provided during the sign-up process. Checks are mailed after the project is completed which can take one to several weeks depending on the project type.

Do I get breaks during in-person projects?
Typically a full day is 7:00 am until 6:00 pm and the first hour to two hours consists of a project orientation, breakfast and initial paperwork. However, each of their projects is different and range in length and format.

Over the course of the day, you will have breaks to walk around or use the restroom. They do not allow participants to leave the facility over the course of the project because of the tight schedule of all our projects.

You will be able to use cell phones and other electronic devices but only during breaks. When they are in session, you must turn off your cell phone to minimize distractions.

Do I have to buy anything?
No. They are not selling anything and they require absolutely no money from you at any time. They are only interested in your feedback on presentations. RPI simply pays you for your time and opinions.

Do I remain anonymous?
Yes. Any and all information is given to them remains with the Research Participants Institute. We do not sell names, numbers, or any other personal information to anyone.

How do I dress for in-person projects?
They ask that their participants wear casual business attire to all their projects. They ask that you refrain from wearing jeans, T-shirts, shorts, sweats, tennis shoes, flip-flops, or hats. However, they do not turn people away because of their attire.

Examples of appropriate attire for men: slacks or khakis with a collared or button-down shirt, etc.

Examples of appropriate attire for women: dress pants, khakis, a skirt with an appropriate shirt/blouse or a dress, etc.

What do I bring with me to the in-person projects?
Bring your driver’s license or state-issued ID with you to the project. They will provide everything else you will need throughout the course of the project. They do however encourage you to bring a book or magazine for any downtime during the project.

They provide meals depending on the project length. If you have special dietary needs or preferences, please always bring your own food and essentials with you.

What if I can’t participate in a project?
If they call or send you a notification email and the times/dates do not work with your schedule, let them know and they can certainly contact you again for another project. However, if you are assigned and scheduled for a project and you do not attend without notice, you will not be called for future projects.

They understand emergencies can occur, but they ask that you confirm your participation with us the day prior or you will not be contacted for future projects.

How often can I participate with RPI?
You are eligible to participate in as many projects as contacted. However, their clients often ask that you have not recently participated in a group to keep your opinions as unbiased and fresh as possible. Each project is different; some say three months or six months, and others request a year between projects. Online Projects do not count toward your past participation.

Should I show up for an in-person project early?
Punctuality is required. Their projects are made within a tight timeframe for not only their time scheduling but also yours. They recommend that if you are unfamiliar with an in-person project location, then it would be in your best interest to leave earlier than normal to allow yourself enough time to find the location. However, their start time is the required time you need to arrive. They typically start the check-in process 10-15 minutes prior to the start time.

Better to show up early rather than late – late participants may be turned away if the project has already begun.

I heard or saw RPI had a project. Why wasn’t I contacted for it?
Majority of their projects require that you live in a certain area to be eligible for a particular project and they must comprise their groups based on the demographic composition of the population in that area. If you were not contacted for a project, RPI may have already filled your demographic for that particular project. They also have limited seating for each project and the project you heard about may be full.

How do I get assigned to a project?
Register online with a valid, unique email address and phone number. Once there is a project you would be eligible for, they will send you an email notification or call you outlining the details for that project to see if you are #1 interested and #2 available. You will then be screened over the phone by a RPI representative (takes less than 5 minutes); if you pass the screening process you are assigned to that project and given the location and full details.

If you share an email address with someone else, only one of you can register with that email address. If both of you would like to register, you will need to provide a unique address for each person.

Online projects are strictly done through email. Register online with a valid email address, wait for an email invitation for a project, log-in and complete the online project.

What if I would like to be removed from the database?
RPI appreciates your participation in their research. But if you do not want to participate in the future, they, of course, understand and respect your decision. Simply let them know by replying to an email notification, letting an RPI representative know over the phone, or by filling out the form on their Contact page.

Inconclusion, Research Participants Institute is not a scam but legit market research company. Although not much info such as Research Participants Institute payment proofs was found online, but based on our research and discussions with their members, they actually pay.
